Course: The race is popular with elite athletes and fun runners alike. The course is undulating rather than hilly and fast times are possible. The main incline is up to Queens Park near the start, but once this is over there is a pleasant downhill stretch and then undulating countryside until a gradual ascent to the finish.
An alternative course has been prepared in case flooding prevents the use of our usual route.
County Team Selection: This year the race will again be used by Essex County as a selection event for the Southern Inter-Counties 10k Championships.
Be quick: Please enter early as we have always sold out quickly and this year, over half the places are already taken up with deferrals from last year, meaning we only have around 400 places available for new sign-ups.
Entry: Entries will only be accepted from registered EntryCentral users. This means you will need to log in to your account or register with EntryCentral to create an account if you don't have one already. The process is quick and it allows you to make changes to your entry, including transfering to someone else if you are not able to run (see below).
Swaps/transfers/waitlist: As last year, we will not be operating a waitlist. Instead, we will use the facility on EntryCentral for runners to transfer their place to another person themselves. This worked well last year and should significantly reduce the administration around swaps/transfers, which has been a source of frustration for some. The organisers will not be making swaps or refunding entries manually and we suggest you use Facebook to connect with someone who is looking for an entry. Please note, there are some user options you can specify on sign-up (e.g. donate to charity and how you would like your entry fee handled in case of cancellation, so it is up to you to check these options with the person taking your place.
Headphones: Strictly no headphones (except hearing aids) – we are serious about your safety and will disqualify any runner ignoring this warning. Similarly, no running with buggies or dogs please.
Entry fee: £18 if you are affiliated to England Athletics; if not £20 for unaffiliated runners.
Admin charge: Entry Central will charge an additional 4% to cover the cost of administration.
Refunds/Deferals: No refunds or deferals will be made unless the organisers cancel the event.
Cancellation: If the race has to be cancelled by the organisers, you will be offered three options:
- Defer entry to 2025 (please note we are trialling a summer date of 6th July next year)
- Donate entry fee to charities supported by Billericay Striders
- Receive refund of entry fee (less administration charge). Note all refunds will go back to the original account holder, so if you obtain your entry via the swap/transfer process (see above), it will be up to you to recover your entry fee from the account holder.
Age Restrictions: All competitors must be at least 15 years old on the day of the race.
