Strathaven Striders 'Run with the Wind' Half Marathon
08 May 2022
The 2022 edition of the Run With The Wind Half Marathon will be held over quiet and undulating roads to the South of Strathaven. It will take you through farming countryside and the village of Sandford and, perhaps most importantly, is not as exposed to the elements as the route we used prior to the 2021 event. Details of the 2022 route may be found here (the 2021 route has been slightly modified to take into account feedback received): https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1872353?units=miles. The revised route has been officially measured and the half marathon distance verified.
The race will start and finish at West Kype Farm (ML10 6PR) and will utilise the facilities of the farm's indoor equestrian arena for registration, changing, post event refreshments and prizegiving. There is also ample parking on the site. Directions to the venue may be found on the Westkype website - https://www.westkypefarm.co.uk/contact/. Please note that no dogs are permitted at the venue.
Registration will take place at West Kype Farm from 08.30 where the race will start at 10am. Registration will close at 09.50 prompt to allow transition to the start line.
The race will be chip timed and race results posted on the chip timers' web site within 24 hours of the race completion. All competitors will receive a technical T shirt or Tree donation (refer below), hot soup/roll and other goodies at the finish. Given adverse weather on the day the race may be rescheduled with as much advance notice as possible.
Tee or Tree? This year you may opt for us to make a donation to Trees for Life rather than receiving a T Shirt. The donation will be equivalent to the cost of a T shirt and will fund a single tree in the Strathaven Striders Grove. We are aware that many of you have a drawer full of T shirts and may prefer to make a contribution to the environment rather than adding another T shirt to your collection. If you would prefer this option simply select 'Tree for Life' when asked for your T shirt size. Trees for Life is a charity with a vision to revitalise wild forest in the Highlands of Scotland, providing space for wildlife to flourish and communities to thrive (https://treesforlife.org.uk).
The race is a Scottish Athletics Permit Event - under UK Athletics Rules
All entries must be made through Entry Central by the stated closing date. There will be no entries on race day.
