Organiser's Description

Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay

The 2023 event will take to place on Sunday 3rd September. We can promise you a great route, keen but friendly competition and prizes for teams and fastest leg runners all combined with a raffle, post-race bbq, legendary home-baking and hot drinks!

News just in... as it's now many years since either of our team course records have been broken (men's 2013, women's 2018) we have partnered with Tiso to offer an additional incentive to set a new best time. Another reason to get your teams sorted early!

The Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay is a 42k relay race with 2,110m of ascent, run in 4 stages starting and finishing in Comrie village. The race follows a route up and around the hills on either side of beautiful Glen Lednock. There are Legs to suit everyone: Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, while Legs 1 and 4, although challenging, are closer to trail races. Leg 1 is fully marked and leg 4 is partially marked. We will also be marking a small section of Leg 3 (across the featureless moor prior to CP6) to reduce risk of lost runners.

Now open for entries!

  • The race route and legs will be the same as 2022.
  • One runner per leg. 4 legs. So teams of 4.
  • *Maximum of 4 teams per club.
  • A mixed team must include at least 2 female runners.
  • Race numbers and punch cards should be collected at registration from 0830 on the day.
  • Race start will be 1000 hrs, and mass starts are planned for Legs 3 and 4, as in previous years.
  • Prizes for 1st Men's and 1st Women's teams, 1st Mixed Team, 1st MV40 and 1st FV40 teams. Individual men/women's leg winners. Course record breakers.
  • Post-race refreshments including barbecue, home baking and hot drinks. We will be offering vegetarian burgers but we have limited grilling space so unfortunately unable to accommodate every allergy and dietary requirement. If you have any intolerance or allergens we suggest you bring your own picnic food.
  • Toilets and (basic) showers are available in the pavilion at Laggan Park, as in previous years.
  • The road up Glen Lednock is a single track cul-de-sac with limited parking and to minimise the disruption to residents and other visitors we need you to take as few cars up the glen as possible. We ask participants to car-share wherever you can.
  • Entry costs £44 per team of 4 runners, all proceeds going to support research into pancreatic cancer.
  • There will be a raffle with some great prizes including Glenturret Whisky and a winter weekend in a Kata at Comrie Croft. So please remember to bring some cash!

* With the cancellation of this year's Devil's Burdens Relay, we are anticipating high demand and want to be fair in allocating places to as many clubs as we can. So get your entries in early and, if you would like to enter more than 4 teams, let us know and, if space allows, we will get back in touch and allocate additional team spaces on a first-come-first-servd basis.

Race Legs are:

  1. 11k, 527m ascent – route marked.
  2. 7k, 400m – unmarked.
  3. 12.6k, 712m – unmarked (apart from a small section to guide you to checkpoint 6).
  4. 11k, 370m – marked

Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, while Legs 1 and 4 are challenging trail routes.

Please make sure you read the Race Rules and Safety Guidance before entering. By entering the race you agree to the Race Rules and Safety Guidance, and will ensure that all runners in your team are also fully aware of them before the race. The safety and well-being of runners and marshals are top priorities.

All runners must carry safety equipment including: map, compass, whistle, waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves. There will be kit checks for all runners.

Note on Non-Binary Participants.
Non-binary runners are very welcome to participate in the Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay. If 1, 2 or 3 non-binary runners are part of a team, that team will compete in the open/men's category. If there is a complete team of 4 eligible non-binary athletes, they will be identified as a non-binary team but there will only be a separate non-binary race category, with appropriate prizes, if there are 3 or more non-binary teams entered. If we have non-binary athletes entered by the closing date, we will ensure there are arrangements for suitable toilet facilities and changing as needed.
