Organiser's Description
Triathlon Scotland is delighted that the Lochore Aquathlon will return for 2023! Taking place at Lochore Meadows Country Park on Sunday 18 June, the event will form part of the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series, but will also feature open participation races for Adults and TriStars, as well as a GO TRI event tailored especially for beginners to multi-sport.
Entry to the Youth and Junior Super Series event will open at a later date and is by application only (please see information below). The Super Series event will involve an exciting multi-race, multi-distance format. Note: if the race is not full from Super Series applicants it will be opened up to other athletes. If you would like to do the race but are not intending to race in the Super Series please register your interest here.
Our Competitive TriStar event is open to all 9-14 year olds*, with an exciting heats & finals format for TriStar 2s & 3s. This will also be a selection event for the Inter Regional Championships (please see information below). Our Participation TriStar event is open to all 9-14 year olds who don't wish to be eligible for Inter Regional Championship selection and offers a great introductory aquathlon for anyone new to the sport or wanting to build their confidence.
We are also hosting open participation events for adults (age 15+*). Take part in either a sprint distance (750m swim, 5km run) or our short, beginner-friendly GO TRI (300m swim, 1.2km run).
This year, Lochore Aquathlon will be part of the National Triathlon Series with results from the Competitive TriStar races and Super Series races qualifying for points.

0830 – 1100 : Youth & Junior Super Series races 1 & 2
1100 – 1200 : TriStar 2 & 3 – Heats
1200 – 1230 : TriStar 1 (Competitive) & TriStar Participation race
1230 – 1400 : Youth & Junior Super Series race 3
1400 – 1500: TriStar 2 & 3 – Finals
1500 – 1530 : Adult GO TRI Aquathlon
1530 – 1630 : Adult Sprint Aquathlon
Please note: Wetsuits are advised for the swim legs (mandatory with water temperature below 14oC).

As part of your entry you will have the option to include a £1.50 donation to British Triathlon's official charity, the Triathlon Trust. The Triathlon Trust aim to change lives by using the sport of triathlon to inspire children to lead active and healthy lifestyles. Event Photography & Videography
There will be an official Triathlon Scotland photographer at the event to capture all the action from the day.
Triathlon Scotland has the right to use these images, photographs and footage taken by our contracted photographer and employees at the event. These images will be used for the purposes of promoting, reporting and broadcasting the event, and any other promotion related to business activities.
Any individual who does not wish to have their image used for these purposes must inform Triathlon Scotland via email (lochore@triathlonscotland.org) no later than one week prior to the event. Notification closer to, or after the event can be made and we will use our best endeavours to prevent images of that individual being used but cannot guarantee it.
As children under the age of 18 years are competing at this event, participants and spectator attendees are required to comply with the Use of Photographic and Video Equipment Policy below:

Adult Sprint Aquathlon
Our Sprint Aquathlon is the ideal event for seasoned triathletes or beginners aged 15 and over* looking to take on a bit more of a challenge.
Participants will complete a 750m open water swim followed by a 5km run within the park. Please note that this event will have a deep water start and the swim course will be in deep water, so it is important you are comfortable with this.
You will require use of a wetsuit for the swim section. If you would like to take part but do not have all the essential equipment, please contact lochore@triathlonscotland.org , and we will do our best to offer help and advice where possible.
Triathlon Scotland can give you help and advice to help you prepare to take part in the event, including directing you to local clubs and training sessions. Please contact lochore@triathlonscotland.org.

TriStar 2 & 3 - Female (Competitive)
TriStar 2 (age 11-12*) & TriStar 3 (age 13-14*) athletes will complete two seperate short aquathlons in a heats and finals format, as below. Each race will consist of a 300m open water swim followed by a 1.2km run on park paths.
Heat Start Lists will be determined by Triathlon Scotland and will be published as soon as possible after entries have closed. The top 37.5% across each heat will automatically qualify for the A Final with the remaining slots being filled by the next fastest times. For example, if there were 2 heats of 25, the top 9 in each would qualify plus the 7 next fastest overall. This will be calculated for the numbers of athletes in each heat. All other athletes will compete in the B Final.
Please note that this event will have a deep water start and the swim course will be in deep water, so it is important you are comfortable with this.

Inter Regional Championships - Selection Event
The Inter Regional Championships (IRC) are a once yearly event held as part of the British Triathlon Grand Final. They are an opportunity for some of the best young athletes across both the TriStar 2 and 3 age groups in each of the 10 English Regions, Scotland, Wales and Jersey to race against each other, both individually and as part of a mixed team relay. The 2023 Inter-Regional Championships (IRCs) will be hosted at the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final at Mallory Park over the weekend of 9-10 September 2023.
Scotland will send a team of 16 athletes, four female and four open, in two age groups (TriStar 2 & 3). The aim of the Triathlon Scotland Inter Regional Championships Team is to provide a race-based experience of the skills athletes wishing to progress onto the Triathlon Scotland Performance Pathway will require.
To be eligible for selection, participants must:
- Have a valid Triathlon Scotland membership prior to the start of the final selection race.
- Be living in Scotland or be an active member of a Triathlon Scotland Affiliated Club.
- Be registered as a female at birth for nomination for female events (and as a competitor in a female place in a Mixed Relay). See the BTF Transgender Policy more information.
- Take part in at least one of the selection races in Scotland. The IRC selection events have now been confirmed as the TriStar 2 and 3 waves at National Youth Championships at Bellahouston (Saturday 20 May 2023) and Lochore Aquathlon hosted by Triathlon Scotland (Sunday 18 June 2023).

Please note that this event will have a deep water start and the swim course will be in deep water, so it is important you are comfortable with this.
You will not be eligible for National Triathlon Series points by entering this race.

TriStar 1 (Competitive)
TriStar 1 (age 9-10*) athletes will complete a single race consisting of a 200m open water swim followed by a 1.2km run on park paths.
This race is open to all TriStar 1 athletes. Competitive means that it is part of the Triathlon Scotland National Series but it is an open and inclusive race.
Please note that this event will have a deep water start and the swim course will be in deep water, so it is important you are comfortable with this.

Adult GO TRI Aquathlon
Our GO TRI Aquathlon event is specifically designed for beginners aged 15 and over* who are ready to take their first step into multi-sport.
Participants will complete a 300m open water swim followed by a 1.2km run on park paths. Please note that this event will have a deep water start and the swim course will be in deep water, so it is important you are comfortable with this.
