Organiser's Description

Tap O'Noth Hill Race

17th August 2024

1.30pm Start - Main Race and Junior Race

As ever this race will be held as part of the Rhynie Gala, starting on the playing fields.  However this years race is special, not only is it part of the Scottish Hill Runners 2024 Championship, it is also the Scottish Athletics National Senior Hill Championship for 2024.  So we are expecting to see a huge turnout of some of the best hill runners in Scotland!

Main Race

Tap O'Noth is an AS catergory hill race (7.5km in length with 390m of ascent).  Entry will be £5 for Scottish Athletic members (£7 non-members).  To qualify in the Scottish Athletics National Senior Hill Championship race you must have a SA membership and use this when entering.   Race will be for over 17s only.

Junior Race

Junior race is 4.8km in length and approx. 200m ascent.  This will cover under 17s, however due to distance of the race athletes must be U15 category or above (born 2010-2011). Entry will be £3 for Scottish Athletic members (£5 non-members).

For full race details and additional information on catergories / proxes please visit the race page on our website (ITRC Tap O'Noth Race Page)

FOR BOTH RACES IT IS ONLINE ENTRY ONLY. DUE TO THE EXPECTED VOLUME OF RUNNERS WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING "ON THE DAY" ENTRIES.

Race Rules and Safety

This race will be covered by a Scottish Athletics race licence and we will run under Scottish Hill Runners rules (SHR Safety Guidelines). Juniors (U18s) are not allowed to enter the main race.

All runners are required to carry the following:

  • full waterproof body cover (taped seams)
  • hat (buff acceptable)
  • whistle
  • map and compass (a paper map is required, phone or GPX is not an acceptable alternative)

Start Location and Route

The race will start at the playing fields in the centre of Rhynie.  Ample parking can be found on the streets around Rhynie with only a short walk to the start/registration. The route has been amended (since 2022) to avoid the road as best possible. Runners will take a right into fields just out of Rhynie, once through the fields its up through the heather to the trig point at the top of the hill.  Route will be marked accordingly and marshals at key points. Follow the same route back down however just as you get into Rhynie you cut straight across the road, then take a left and come into the playing fields from the opposite side (again marshals will be present at road crossing).  Junior route will be the same but runners will loop back around at approximately 2.5km.
