Rising Stars Athletics Challenge
Organised by Pitreavie AAC
This new and exciting challenge consists of three fun athletics events which are open to any young person aged 8-11 (in 2026) who wishes to experience competition based on the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing.
The aim of the competition is to:
- Provide a fun introduction to competition at the younger (fundamental) ages
- To promote activity with particular focus on fundamental movements which underpin all sports
- Align with the restructured Scottish Athletics pathway for competition
- Provide recognition to all participants by awarding a certificate at each match in the series, whilst introducing a competitive element and awarding medals at each of the three events in the series in the following male and female categories:
o U9
o U10
o U11
o U12
- For athletes competing in all three events in the series, provide the opportunity to be overall age group champions and win a trophy
Competition Dates and times
All events will run from 11-13:30, with registration from 10-10:30am
- Sunday 30th November
- Saturday 10th January
- Sunday 22nd February
Event Format
Each young athlete will be in a pool with their year group at at each match in the series and will rotate around a run, a jump and a throw. These will be based on fundamentals and at each match will include one of each of the following events:
RUN - 60m, 60m (cardboard) hurdles, 300m loop or 240m shuttle run
JUMP - Long jump, scissor jump, broad jump
THROW - Shot putt, overhead throw, howler (nerff) throw, turbo javelin
Whilst results are being compiled, athletes will compete in a non-scoring relay
Cost
£10 per event or £26 for all three matches in the series
Note is a pemitted event which holds a Scottish Athletics basic lisence, therefore results are not eligible for Po10
