Organiser's Description

Pollok Country Park

The land now occupied by Pollok Country Park was first widely known as ‘Nether Pollok’. It was originally part of the Barony of Mearns in Renfrewshire. ‘Nether’ means ‘lower’ and ‘Pollok’ is thought to derive from the Gaelic word, ‘pollag’, which means ‘small pond’.

Some fantastic detail on the park, it's history and it future can be found at:
https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=35711&p=0

Race

Race start will be 9.30am

The race will start and finish adjacent to the Corkerhill Road entrance to the park.

Registration will be from 8.45am. This is at the opposite end of the park to what most people are used to. Please bear this in mind.

The What3Words address for the start is........https://w3w.co/events.hails.await

Remember there is no vehicular access to the park at weekends. Please find alternative parking provision. The nearest train station to registration and start/finish is Corkerhill.

The route

It's roughly 7.5km or just over 4.5 miles in old money. It's a trail race....that's an 'ish'. Bit of mud - hopefully. Some incline. Some decline. And some faster paved bits.

The route will cover a large area of the park and is definitely multi-terrain. Weather conditions between now and then will define what shoe type will be best on the day!

Trying to be a bit different from other Pollok Park routes, we're avoiding the Loch Inch Road, apart from a wee crossing.

Entry

Just £7 for affiliated runners. Entry includes a £2 donation to the Friends of Pollok Park.

There will be no entries on the day. This is in line with our Covid risk assessment. Entries close on Saturday 7th at 17.00. No late entries. Sorry we'll be quite busy the night before!

Merch extras will be available on signup. Items are made to order. These will be posted direct to you after the event. Reduces the gathering at the finish line, which is again line with our covid risk assessment.

Entry is limited to 100 runners. This will be a 'wave start' event. You will however be asked for an estimated 5k/parkrun time on signup. This will be used to seed the waves. 50 runners in each wave

Friends of Pollok Park

This volunteer group support the park in fantastic ways. Path improvements, wildlife trails, bat and butterfly encouragement just the tip of the iceberg.

Part of your entry fee is donated to their work. There will also be the option on sign up to top-up that donation.

Find out more about their work at https://www.friendsofpollokpark.com/

Finish line

Manually timed, so keep your race bib pinned in a nice clear place. Shirt or shorts is fine as long as we can see it on your front.

Once you finish please clear away from the finish line. We're not allowed gatherings and crowds, please disperse in the interest of us being able to host future events.

Prizes

There will be prizes for the winners. There will also be a couple of spot prizes available.

Race Brief

A race brief will be emailed out the day before the event. Please take the time to read this. Many of the conditions of our race (and possible future events) rely on you the runner heeding the regulations that are in place for you and everyone elses safety.

Can't wait to see you on the day…
