Outrun the Night

Minimum age: 18+
About the Challenge
Outrun the Night is a 12-hour running challenge around a 5km loop through Dalkeith Country Park.
Complete as many loops as you choose. Run continuously, stop for a break or return later in the night. Every completed loop adds 5km to your total.
Your final loop must begin before 7am.

Not Just for Ultrarunners
There is no required distance and no pressure to run for the full 12 hours.
Your challenge could be your first night trail run, 10km, a marathon, your first ultra or the top of the leaderboard.

Teams complete the challenge as a relay, with one runner on the course at a time.
First Place Prizes
The top three men and top three women will each receive free entry to the upcoming Burgh Backyard event.
The first-place man and woman will also receive a running-shop voucher.
The Course
The 5km loop includes woodland trails and road. Expect complete darkness, uneven ground, exposed roots and changing conditions underfoot.
The course will be fully marked.
The event will normally continue in poor weather. The route, timings or format may be changed if required for safety.
Event Schedule
4.30pm: Registration and base-camp set-up opens
6.45pm: Mandatory race briefing
7pm: Challenge begins
7am: No new loops may begin
All runners must check out with the event team before leaving, even if they stop running before the end of the event.
Mandatory Equipment
Every runner must have:

Spare batteries or a second light

Fully charged mobile phone

Suitable trail footwear
-
Clothing appropriate for the conditions
Runners without the required lighting will not be allowed onto the course after dark.
Base Camp
Every loop returns to base camp on the Palace Lawn at Dalkeith Palace.
Runners and teams may bring one tent or gazebo, with a maximum footprint of 3m x 3m, for resting, refuelling and storing equipment.
Solo runners may have up to three support crew members. Teams may have up to two support crew members. Crew members must use the same tent or gazebo as the runner or team and may not bring additional shelters.
Music is permitted at base camp but must be kept at a respectful volume. Momentm Events will also provide music throughout the night to bring the party atmosphere.
Spectators are welcome.
Location and Parking
Base camp is located on the Palace Lawn at Dalkeith Palace, Dalkeith Country Park, EH22 2NA.
There is no participant parking or vehicle drop-off inside the park. Please use Dalkeith High Street or surrounding public parking areas.
Full arrival instructions will be sent before the event.

There will be no food vendors, so runners and crews must bring their own meals, fuel and reusable cup or bottle.
Gas stoves, generators, naked flames and alcohol are not permitted. This applies to runners, crews and spectators.

Please leave no trace, use the waste and recycling points provided and do not litter anywhere on the course or at base camp.
Refunds, Transfers and Cancellation

Refunds are available up to 8 weeks before the event.

Transfers to another eligible Momentm Events race are available up to 4 weeks before the event.

Transfers to another runner are available up to 7 days before the event.

If Momentm Events cancels or postpones the race, runners may transfer their entry or receive a refund.
Travel, accommodation and other associated expenses cannot be reimbursed.
