KIRKCALDY PARKS RUNNING FESTIVAL 2021
10k TRAIL RUNNING RACE
Sponsored by Newlay (Civil Engineering Ltd)
After the success of the inaugural 2019 Kirkcaldy Parks Half Marathon there was no doubt the organising committee were committed to doing it all over again the following year.
As we all know however, the whole world was affected by the Covid-19 global pandemic and both the 2020 and 2021 half marathon events had to be cancelled.
It was always the intention of the committee to grow the event and we have the opportunity this year to introduce our new 10k trail race, which if popular, could become a permanent fixture of the weekend running festival!
Race HQ and the start will be within beautiful Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy (which unbelievably, used to host racing for Formula 3 cars and motorcycles!).
You will run in and around the magical Wizard’s Walk (home of famous running club the Kirkcaldy Wizards) and if you are lucky enough, you may even catch a glimpse of Wizard Michael yourself!
You will then be taken on an “undulating” tour of the beautiful Raith Estate, which dates back to the 17th century before returning to Beveridge Park.
The route will be a mix of grass, tarmac, gravel, soft trail and field edge so consideration must be given to the appropriate footwear.
This is not the hardest 10k route in Scotland but it is also not the easiest and must be given the respect it deserves. Elevation gain will be in the region of 500-600ft.
The race will be run under UK Athletics Rules and will be a Scottish Athletics permit event.
As you should know, we are a non-profit organisation and one of our key aims is to make the running festival as inclusive as possible.
This relates to a lot of aspects of course but financial inclusivity is one of them.
Our key sponsors wholeheartedly agree on this and their generous contributions help to cover as much of the costs as possible, keeping the entry fee as low as possible.
A big thank you to our returning sponsors:
• Strive Health
• The Buffalo Farm
• Travel Your World
• The Dutchess of Kirkcaldy
• D&G Autocare (Kirkcaldy)
And a big thank you to our new sponsors for 2021:
• M&N Real Estate
• Wayymark Training
• McIntyre Roofing
The race will start at 10am within Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy.
We ask all runners, marshals and helpers to NOT park in the main car park, but to leave this free for other park users.
There will be ample parking at the nearby Balwearie High School. Parking information will be shared soon.
There are also plenty of bus and rail links nearby, so please leave plenty of time to arrive for the race start.
Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty surrounding possible covid restrictions, there will be no running festival activities on offer this year.
Please check with the park and/or Fife Council regarding access to facilities/toilets in or around the park on this day.
Entry opens on Friday 4th June at 7pm.
Due to the expected high demand and limited spaces, we shall be operating a ballot system for entry, whereby you join a waiting list until the ballot is drawn.
Online entry will remain open for 1 week after which it will close and the event places shall be picked randomly and automatically by the Entry Central random ballot system.
Once places are allocated, you will have 48 hours to accept and pay or decline the space. This action is not reversable, so don't miss out!
Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds or deferrals - this is non-negotiable.
Should you not be able to make the race for any reason you may be able to transfer your place to another runner, after the ballot has been drawn.
Runners must agree transfers and details changed using the original sign up.
Transfers will be available up to a closing date, but it may not be possible to alter t-shirt options, depending on the date of the transfer.
You will be notified of this date in advance.
Runners will have to sort out payment between themselves; this is not a function of KPRF or Entry Central due to banking privacy laws. We hope you understand.
Information on collection of race numbers will be posted soon.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
In line with the current government / sportscotland / Scottish Athletics guidance, we do not foresee any reason why an event of our size should not go ahead at the end of August.
Should the race not go ahead for any covid-related reason, we would provide automatic entry to next year's 10k or, reimburse the runner with their entry fee (minus any transaction cost retained by Entry Central) at their request.
Safety of the runners and the public is paramount to us; therefore, runners must adhere to marshal instructions at all times.
There will be a time limit of 2 hours for the race (approx. 19 minutes per mile).
Runners who expect to take longer than this are still welcome to attend and will receive t-shirt and medal upon completion; however, we cannot guarantee an official time after this point.
Any questions regarding any of this should be directed to email@example.com where we will respond asap.
