Great Links Tor Flyer 2026 - Fell Race

We are really pleased to have this as an evening race on wess 19th August. entries will open on June 1st.

An spectacular route of 4.5 miles of fantastic running with some breathtaking views. Probably one of the best off road routes on Dartmoor! Starting and finishing at Fox and Hounds Hotel near Bridestow/Lydford. Also incorporating Junior Races. The 9th race of the Dartmoor Fell Series! 

Called 'the flyer' as the descent may be the closest thing a runner may come to flying - of course everything that comes down must first go up !?

Wednesday 19th Septmber 2026, Seniors breifing at 18:30 and starts at 18:40 hrs, Juniors U10 & U12; U14 & U16 briefing at start line ( gate by moor)  17:30 start at 17:45 - finish by ford ( note u10/u12 will do Arms tor and return and the u14 and u16 will do Brat and Arms Tor. Seniors are encoouraged to watch. Presentations by finish at 18;20 just before senior race. Senior race briefing 18:30 at Moor gate - start at 18:40. 

• Best Times for the course: each year have been gradually reduced to some phenomenal times.
• Male CR - Ben Perry (Exeter harriers) 36 min 55 sec set in 2023
• Female CR - Charlotte Walker ( TAC) 43 mins 57 secs set in 2023
• The run will be limited to a maximum of 150 competitors 
• Minimum age limit for the senior event is  minimum15 years.
• 'a word for specatators' - come up onto first hill the view of the course is amazing

SW Fellrunners are pleased to stage this fell race with supporting younger age group events.  We are also pleased to have the support of North Dartmoor Search and rescue team.The event has an FRA licence and all junior courses will be marked and marshaled, senior course will only be partially marked. We are welcoming anyone with an interest in off-road running to this new event. 

Junior 6-11 yrs( age at year end) 1.9k with 140m of ascent, start brief at 17:30, £1:50 on line entry.
Youth 12-14 yrs, 3.6k with 220m of ascent, start brief at 17:30, £1:50 on-line entry.
Adults Race 16+yrs 7.5k, with 380m of ascent, starting at 18:40, £6:00 entry on-line plus 50p booking. 

Adult race prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers and age groups, and normal vet categories hopefully by 20:15 pm in the pub or if nice on outside seating by the bar.

All race Parking,- expected in the camping field behind the pub - so approach with care - please follow marshals instructions . All junior runners must still complete as parental consent form on the day, registration for juniors closing 20 minutes before each race starts. 
Toilet facilities will be available and refreshments available in the pub after the event.

Seniors same course as last year - of course has a hill in it -Start at Moor gate- the route will take track to Gt Nodden tor, past both cairns then almost go back on yourself and descend on marked path to ford below to the tin workings in the valley. 2 markers will indicate direction of line via open moor ( slight up here!) to Little Links tor is the best line, continue up this slight incline to Gt Links tor (check point next to trig) - leave and go right of top outlying rock if you want path to arms -the course is pretty flat or downhill from here!. A fast descent directly to Arms tor ( head for Left  most rock as you approach - for checkpoint) - then contouring path to Brat tor ( Checkpoint) and then an even faster descent from Brat tor to stepping stones- marker pole do not cross the river ( many have done so! ) but follow path back up stream to ford crossing that leads to Fox and Hounds- finish in field you parked in. We will be using our rapid results so you will get info live as you finish and we hope results out with 5 mins of end of the race.

This a short Cat A race. We are advising that the following mandatory kit is taken -, a whistle, hat and light rainproof top is recommended. No additional kit required. If there is a severe weather forecast check this site for details.

How to enter

• Pre-Entry fee for Seniors is £6:00 plus 50p booking fee. 
• Entry for Junior races is £1:50 and only on the day. Register 20 mins before race.
• Deadline for entry will be 16th August  at 20:00hrs.
