1 Entry per Team, please name your 3 runners where possible in running order.

Number pickup & registration from 6:15 pm

Year 3, and we are keeping the midweek summer slot as it was such a success last year. It's a race in memory of two men James Harrison and Martin Hulme who had settled in Edinburgh and loved running in the hills and regularly shared their experiences and knowledge with friends. Both were taken from us too soon, but unquestionably compelled many of us to take steps into both the local hills and beyond. So the organisation of a hill race seemed a fitting way to commemorate them annually.

The event takes the format of a 3 person relay team all running the same route. (https://www.strava.com/routes/28973750) A fast but challenging 4.6K run with 261m of total ascent. The route takes in two of James' favourite Pentland forays, Capelaw Hill and the fast mile-long downhill trod the 'Scalextric'.

Entry is £15 for a team, and the entry fees will be donated to Spokes minus any minimal costs.

Please when entering provide both your team name and team member's, names.

Spokes (http://www.spokes.org.uk) is a a non party political voluntary organisation in Edinburgh, with the objectives to; a) To promote cycling, as part of a sustainable transport and access strategy, and to ensure that councils and government actively do the same. and b) To publicise the benefits of cycling for the community and individuals – like walking, it is cheap, efficient, enjoyable, healthy, non-polluting and intrinsically safe.

There will be no prizes but we will publish full results and celebrate winners and the fastest times.

People are encouraged to enter as a team, but individual entrants will be accepted and allocated to a team by the organisers.

Please register on the day by the start by 7 PM at the latest.

There will be no facilities at the event, so please plan accordingly. And I'd recommend a flask of tea and a snack. The route has been planned to allow for the start-finish to be a good vantage point for watching the action unfold.

Car parking is available at Bonaly but it is recommended to park a bit further away and walk/jog up via Torduff Reservoir or Bonaly Road.

Description of the route

The route starts and finishes at the end of the 'Scalextric', a revered downhill trod located between Torduff Hill and the main path up from Bonaly car park in the Pentland Hills. From the start head along a small trod to join the main path up from Bonaly then follow southwest uphill either on the hardcore path or via the trails running parallel. Travelling in the same direction go through the gate to Bonaly reservoir and straight through another gate taking you to the foot of the path to Capelaw Hill (454m) summit. Gentle at first this quickly steepens before reaching the top marked by an upright metal pole resembling an H. Round the pole and turn west down a very runnable grassy path, keeping to the right-hand fork where the trail splits. This path culminates with a steep descent and then crosses the main path headed for Harbour Hill across boggy ground. Stay on the track as it runs alongside the fence until almost at the summit. To the right, there is a marked fence junction, with a crossbar installed to ease crossing. Cross over the fence here (only, please!) and then turn right to join the start of the 'Scalextric' path. From here untether any brakes, take a deep breath, and run as hard and as fast as your legs can take you. Passing the treebound north side of Bonaly reservoir there is a small incline, but this is the last of the route. Pass through the gate and take the left-hand path all the way to the finish.
