Organiser's Description

Kick off the 2024 race season in style by entering one of Glasgows oldest, most iconic races.

The Nigel Barge Memorial 10k is one of Scotland's oldest road races, first run in 1943. In 2023, we celebrated our 80th anniversary with a sold out event. We are delighted to return for 2024.

The race commemorates Nigel Barge who was killed in action in Dunkirk during World War II. Nigel was an outstanding officer who trained as a Royal Engineer and came top of his class at Woolwich (“The Shop”). As well as a licensed pilot, he was a keen athlete and outstanding runner. Nigel’s father was Kenneth Barge, late of the Bengal Lancers and member of the committee of Maryhill Harriers.

Race date and time: Sunday 21st January 2024, 12:00 noon

Location: The race starts at the Garscube Sports Complex (G20 0SP) and takes takes in surrounding roads around the Garscube Estate. A course map can be found here

Registration: Registration and number pick up will be available at Garscube Estate Sports facility from 10:30am. Please enter the Sports Centre via the rear doors - registration desks are immediately adjacent. Changing facilities are available, and bags may also be left at owners risk.  Registration and number collection will close at 11.40am.

Parking:  Limited parking is available at the Sports Centre and we do not have sole use of the facility on the day of the event. There is ample parking at the adjacent Todd Campus Science Park (G20 0XA) and surrounding streets, which is a short walk from the start line and number collection area. Please do not park in the private business car parks inside the Kelvin Campus, on any double yellow lines, or alongside any sports pitch as access is required at all times for emergency medical services.

Entry Fees: SAL Registered £14, Others £16.

Route: The classic Nigel Barge route is a 2 lap course, starting and finishing within the grounds of the Garscube Kelvin Campus estate. The route is entirely on tarmac path and roads. Roads will not be closed to traffic on the day of the race, so please exercise caution and follow instructions from marshalls. The route has been officially measured.

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place male and female, as well as age group prizes. We will also award our traditional 'King and Queen of the Hill' award for the first runners to scale the Vet School hill.

Results: Will be logged on the club website and on the Scottish Athletics website. We will be utilising ProTays chip timing solution to provide fast, accurate timing. Results will be immediately available to all runners upon crossing the line.
