CORNHILL HIGHLAND GAMES 2026

FERNIE RACE 3K & 6K

Cornhill Highland Games is pleased to announce the return of the Fernie Race for children and adults. 

Under 12s - 3K (1 lap)

Under 16s - 3K (1 lap)

Adults (16+) - 6K (2 laps)

Any adults wishing to run the 3K with younger children are most welcome to do so, and do not need to enter the race themselves. But will need to pay to get into the Highland Games. 

Both races start at 11:00am.

Both races: start with 1 lap (200m) of the Games arena to then turn right to continue out of the village. Another right to run up the Fernie road - a small gradual climb for 1K. It is then downhill from there as the route turns back towards the village. 

3K - when children return to the village, they return to the Cornhill Highland Games and complete a finishing lap of the Games arena. 

6K - when adults (16+) return to the village for the 1st time, they continue forwards, past the Games, to do another lap of the Fernie. On returning the 2nd time, they return to the Cornhill Highland Games and complete finishing lap of the Games arena. 

Toilets will be available at the Cornhill Highland Games.

Entry fees:

Under 12s - £5

Under 16s - £5

Adults (16+) - £12

Entry fee includes: a medal

                               a goodie bag & water

                               free entry to the Cornhill Highland Games 

Registration will take place at 9.45am - 10.30am at a gazebo near the car park gate to the Cornhill Highland Games.

Cornhill Highland Games is grateful to NFU Mutual Aberdeen City and Shire for sponsorship of the Fernie Race, with trophies and prize money for each age group and gender:

1st - Under 12s male/female: £20

2nd - Under 12s male/female: £10

3rd - Under 12s male/female: £5

1st - Under 16s male/female: £20

2nd - Under 16s male/female: £10

3rd - Under 16s male/female: £5

1st - Adults (16+) male/female: £30

2nd - Adults (16+) male/female: £20

3rd - Adults (16+) male/female: £10

Please ensure you register at the tent near the gate at the main carpark from 9.45am - 10.30am. You will be given you race number here and if you show this to the marshalls at the gate, you will be allowed in to the Highland Games for free. 

The race is due to start at 11.00am, please make sure you are ready to go at 10.50am, near the Games field and wait to be called into the Games arena.
