The Course
We’re always delighted to partner with Anglian Water for our Grafham Water Swimrun. Set around one of Cambridgeshire’s most scenic reservoirs. The event features undulating 5k, 10k and 21k courses with superb open-water swimming, easy entry and exit points, and flowing trail runs through woodland and along the reservoir tracks.
Athletes follow the north shore, swimming across natural bays and running around reed-fringed banks. The shorter courses loop back along the north shore to the finish, while the 21k route continues through the nature reserve for a full lap of the reservoir — a stunning challenge from start to finish.

As Keen As Mustard Events – Race Information and Rules
Registration & Race Briefing
-
All participants must register at Event Registration on race day
-
At registration, you will collect your swim hat and number band.
-
Attendance at the race briefing is mandatory and takes place 15 minutes before your start time.
-
The Racebook forms part of the mandatory Race Safety Brief and will be available on the website and linked in your final email (sent once entries have closed).
-
Please check your spam/junk folder, as these emails can sometimes end up there.
Mandatory Equipment
-
You must carry all equipment required for the event from start to finish. Failure to do so makes you ineligible for prizes.
-
You must wear your number band at all times and your swim hat during all swim sections.
-
A whistle is required to attract attention in an emergency.
-
Trainers/running shoes must be worn throughout the event.
-
You must carry a soft/collapsible cup for use at aid stations.
-
Wetsuits are mandatory if the water temperature is below 14°C.
-
A waterproof-packaged pressure bandage/field dressing must be carried.
-
You may compete in a wetsuit, trisuit, or swimming gear/lightweight T-shirt (depending on water temperature).
-
Random kit checks will be carried out at the start; participants not properly equipped will not be permitted to race.
Optional Equipment
-
You may use paddles, pull buoys, or other flotation aids, provided they are no larger than 100cm x 60cm.
Timing
-
Timing is measured electronically from the gun start until you cross the finish line.
Litter Policy
-
We operate a zero-tolerance policy on littering.
-
Dispose of waste responsibly at aid stations or hand it to the next marshal.
-
Dropping litter will result in disqualification and removal from the course.
Withdrawal & Retiring
-
Marshals’ and Race Directors’ decisions are final. Abusive language or behaviour will not be tolerated.
-
Race officials may remove any participant they judge to be fatigued or unsafe to continue.
-
If you withdraw, report to the nearest marshal and then return to the finish area to hand in your number band.
-
Failure to return your number band incurs a £10 charge.
Course Hazards
-
Sections of the run are off-road with uneven ground, mud, and natural obstacles.
-
Enter and exit the water only at designated points to minimise ecological impact and ensure safety.
-
Be cautious when standing up after swims — you may feel disorientated.
-
Always follow marshal instructions.
Assistance
-
If you need help in the water, roll onto your back and raise one arm.
-
You may hold the front of a safety boat to rest but must make no forward progress while doing so.
-
You may assist other competitors, but no outside assistance is allowed.
The Course
-
Courses will be clearly marked; follow your colour-coded arrows and tape.
-
Final route maps will be available four weeks before the event in the Competitor Handbook (on the website and linked in your final email).
-
The Race Director or Safety Officer may change the route at any time up to and including race day.
-
Trainers must be worn throughout, as you’ll be entering and exiting water at multiple natural points.
-
Diving is not permitted.
-
Taking the wrong course may result in added time or disqualification at the Race Director’s discretion.
Solo Entries
-
Solo participants must be 18 or over and able to swim and run the full race distances.
Team Entries
-
Teams consist of two participants, both 18 or over, who must be able to complete all swim and run distances.
-
Team members must stay within 100m on land and 10m in the water at all times.
Cut-Offs
-
Cut-offs are based on a 15-minute mile run pace and 2:45 per 100m swim pace, with additional time allowed for transitions, uphill sections, and upstream swims.
-
Exact cut-off times will be listed in the Race Handbook.
Risks & Responsibility
-
Participants compete at their own risk and cannot hold As Keen As Mustard Events, its organisers, volunteers, sponsors, landowners, or affiliates responsible for any incidents or injuries.
-
All participants must assist others in difficulty where possible.
-
Marshals may remove participants judged to be unfit to continue.
Photography & Media
-
By entering, participants grant As Keen As Mustard Events unrestricted rights to use any photos or film taken during the event for marketing or media purposes.
Acceptance of Rules
-
By entering, all participants confirm they have read and accepted these rules and acknowledge that the organisers may make reasonable amendments prior to the event.
Entry Withdrawal, Cancellations & Deferrals
Force Majeure:
-
No refunds will be given if the event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organiser’s control (e.g. extreme weather, fire, strike, pandemic, algae, flooding, drought, or other unforeseen events).
-
If possible, the event will be rearranged, or participants may transfer to another AKAM event.
Refunds & Transfers:
-
No refunds are given once entries are confirmed, including in circumstances where you are unable to attend due to illness or injury or a scheduling conflict
-
You may transfer your entry to another person up to 14 days before the event.
-
You may transfer to another AKAM event or defer (see below).
-
Personal event insurance is strongly recommended.
Payment Plans & Instalments
-
Payment plans are available for selected longer-distance events. By choosing this option, you agree to make all instalments in full and on time according to the schedule set out at registration.
-
Your entry is not confirmed until the final payment has been received.
-
If an instalment is missed or fails to process, a reminder will be sent. If payment is not received within 7 days of that reminder, your place will be cancelled automatically, and you will forfeit all payments made to date.
-
If you choose to withdraw before completing the payment plan, all payments already made will be non-refundable and non-transferable, as your entry has been reserved and event costs committed.
-
You may, at the organiser’s discretion, transfer any fully paid portion of your entry to another eligible participant once your balance is settled in full.
-
Standard AKAM terms on cancellation, deferral, and transfer apply once full payment has been completed.
-
By selecting a payment plan, you acknowledge that missed payments, chargebacks, or cancellations constitute a withdrawal by you, and the organiser is under no obligation to reinstate your entry.
Deferrals:
-
Deferrals must be requested at least six weeks before race day and are subject to a £10 admin fee.
-
Deferrals are valid for one year only.
-
Entries made within six weeks of race day cannot be deferred but may be transferred to another event that year (once only).
-
Re-sale of entries is prohibited.
-
No changes can be made after the event closing date.
Event Cancellation by AKAM:
-
If AKAM cancels for reasons not covered under Force Majeure, participants will receive a full refund or free transfer to another AKAM event.
-
AKAM accepts no liability for travel or accommodation costs.
Cooling-Off Period:
-
Entries can be cancelled within 14 days of purchase (unless the event is within two weeks). Refunds will be issued minus transaction fees.
