5th Annual Steeple Bumpstead 10km race and 3km run, Sunday 23rd June 2019

On 23rd June 2019 the Steeple Chasers will host the 5th annual Steeple Bumpstead 10km and 3km races.  Both events will be chip-timed. 

This event is run entirely for charity and we have distrbuted more than £10,000 over the last 4 years, mostly to local charities.  We look forward to having another great year for charitable causes in 2019.

Venue/Race HQ: Steeple Bumpstead Village Hall, Finchingfield Road, Steeple Bumpstead, Essex, CB9 7EA

**NEW**  Early-bird entries:  Entry fees are frozen at 2018 prices until midnight 31st January 2019.  Online entries will increase in price for the remainder of online registration.  Family pricing has been refreshed based on feedback and to better reflect entry requirements, but will only be available online.

Online entries will close at midnight on Sunday 16th June.  On-the-day registration will be available on race-day.  There is an event limit of 500 places.  Runner's age is at race day on 23rd June 2019.

10km Race (16+ years old)                                  

  • Online entry:  £13 early bird up to 31st January, then £15 until midnight 16th June.
  • On-the-day entry:  £17.
  • £2 discount for UKA or ARC affiliated runners.
  • Male and female categories with two age groups, 16-39 and 40+.  Medal for every finisher and trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female in each age group.  
  • Race starts at 10.30am.

3km Race

  • Online entry 3-16 years old:  £5 early bird up to 31st January, then £6 until midnight 16th June.
  • Online entry 17+ years old:  £6 early bird up to 31st January, then £7 until midnight 16th June
  • On-the-day entry:  3-16 years old £7; 17+ years old £8.
  • Male and female categories with two age groups, 3-10 and 11+.  Medal for every finisher and a trophy for 1st boy and 1st girl in each age group.
  • Race starts at 10.45am. 

3km Family Ticket 

  • Family tickets will only be offered online.  To take advantage of these savings you must enter online.
  • Option 1 - £14 for 3 people (min. 1 child under 11) early bird up to 31st Jan, then £17. 
  • Option 2 - £18 for 4 people (min. 2 children under 11) early bird up to 31st Jan, then £22.
  • Enter the events as separate runners and a discount will be applied at the checkout.

Online entrants can collect their race packs between 9am and 10.15am from Race HQ on race day.  Registration for on-the-day entrants will be open between 9am and 10am at Race HQ on race day.

Course : This is a multi-terrain event run mostly on grassy tracks, footpaths and private roads and is expected to be the same as previous years.  The 10k course takes you past the stunning Elizabethan Manor House of Moyns Park and into the picturesque village of Birdbrook.  A gravel track takes runners back towards Steeple Bumpstead, to follow the course of the Bumpstead Brook. A final short loop is followed by a downhill dash, through the church yard and into the playing fields to the sound of a roaring crowd! 

The 3k route starts in the same way as the 10k course, but after approximately 1.5km, the 3k course leaves the 10k course and heads back into the village of Steeple Bumpstead, passing the historic Moot Hall and heads back into the playing fields behind the churchyard.

There will be sufficient water stations on the course dependent on weather conditions.  In the hottest of recent years we have had 3 water stations and even a shower on the 10km course - we are always prepared!  Water will be available after the finish funnel. 

**New** The 2019 event will follow the recent drive to reduce the use of plastic.  Water stations on the course will not provide cups, you will need to carry your own cup or bottle and water will be provided.  We are offering for sale during registration a specialist 200ml super light running cup that you will barely notice you're carrying for a very low price. This will be in your race pack.

There will be no road closures in operation. It is your responsibility to abide by the highway-code at all times.  We would therefore recommend that you do not wear any headphones during this race.

Race Number: Please collect your race pack, including number and timing chip, from race HQ on race morning between 9am and 10.15am.  Your race entry is not transferable. Race numbers should be fastened to the front of your vest and be visible at all times. Please bring ID with you to collect your race number. Please bring safety pins if you can.

Car Parking: Dedicated event parking is available for runners and spectators on the playing fields behind the Village Hall, near the start, accessed via Bower Hall Drive. Please follow the directions of the marshals. Please do not park in the residential roads near to the Village Hall.

There are limited opportunities to park on the course given the narrow roads.  If you do park outside the playing fields, please do not block drives or entrances to fields, as this event relies on the continued support of the local community and farmers.

Baggage: This can be left in the race HQ, at the owner’s risk.  Please use the labels provided to mark your race number on your bag. This area is secure and will be manned at all times, although we cannot accept liability for loss or damage. Your race number will be needed to collect your bag once the race has ended.

Finish: At the finish please proceed steadily through the funnel. A marshal will be on hand to remove your timing-chip.  Please be patient if a queue starts to form.  Medals and water are available after you leave the finish area. 

The award ceremony will take place outside the Village Hall as soon as possible after the race has finished, estimated to be between 12:00 and 12:30.  All runners are encouraged to stay for the presentation.

Results: A provisional list of results will be displayed as soon as they become available.  A full list of results will be published as soon as possible after the race. 

Race HQ: Hot and cold drinks and cakes will be available inside the Village Hall, along a BBQ outside.

Information and On Day Entries: The on day entries desk will open at approximately 9am in the race HQ. If you have any problems or queries on the day, please ask at the marshal desk in the Village Hall.  On day entries will close promptly at 10am.
