A Guided Run: and potential swim.: Ryders on a storm

28 Jun 2026

Organiser's Description

A Dartmoor 10 mile ish trail run with a potential swim 1km from the finish, weather etc permitting.

The route will head south west across Holne Moor to Ryder's Hill, the highest peak on the southern side of Dartmoor. From there we shall head over to Pupers Hill via Snowden (not that one!) and then east on the Two Moors Way to Scoriton and then Holne villages. The final part involves a run along the River Dart to Sharrah Pool which happens to be one of the best wild swimming spots on the moor, in my opinion. We then finish with a short but steep climb up through the trees and back to Venford Resevoir.

For those wanting to swim, this is done so at your own risk as Mitch Buchannon and any other life gurads for that matter will not be in attendance.

The pace will as ever be steady as this is a running advnture not a threshold training session or a strava segment hunt.

Kit requirements are:

Trail shoes, Waterproof, hat and gloves if cold (its a UK Summer!) and any snacks or fluids you require. A towel is optional for those looking to swim and a change of clothes, either carried or left in the vehicle at the finish. There isnt really an option to get to the car and pick up swimmers and then return unless you do so in your own time.

Parking is free at time of writing and there is a loo at the start.

I am driving from Tavistock for those that want a lift, I have 8 spaces. I will leave Bedford Square at 0800, just let me know in advance if you want to book a seat.
