Get ready for an epic weekend of coastal climbing adventures—on our next club trip we are heading down to Portland! With stunning sea views, incredible routes, and (hopefully) sunny weather this is a trip you won't want to miss!

Portland is one of the UK’s top sport climbing destinations, offering hundreds of bolted limestone routes across a wide range of grades—from beginner-friendly slabs to steep, technical challenges. With grippy limestone, sea cliff backdrops, and accessible crags, Portland delivers high-quality sport climbing on the sunny south coast. 

But it’s not just about the climbing—these trips are all about getting away, hanging out with friends, and having a laugh. Evenings will be filled with post-climb pub trips, chilled-out socials, and the usual ridiculous stories. 

Fancy a break from climbing? Portland offers some scenic coastal walks and a variety of watersports. Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay are prime locations for sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. Whether you’re up for a breezy coastal hike or adrenaline-fueled fun on the water, Portland delivers on all fronts.

Bring your own food! We might organise a big group meal, but details will be confirmed closer to the time.

Costs

For insurance reasons these trips are aimed at ESC members and for that reason they will have been emailed a discount code. If you are not a member and try to use the code your ticket will be invalidated by us and give me a headache so please don't! The discount code only works for one person at a time so if you want to pay for multiple people with a code just buy one ticket at a time. If you joined after that email went round please message a committee member for the code.

If you're not a member of the club you count as a prospective member for insurance reasons (ie are covered) for the first three months since you first did a club activity. If you've been coming on club trips for longer than that you'll need to join up to come. The link for that is here: Entrycentral.com/esc

The breakdown of the costs is as follows:

2 nights ESC member - £45 (usual discount code)

2 nights NON-member - £55

Dog - Dogs are welcome to stay in the rooms. The YMCA charge an additional £10 per room for those staying over with dogs. 

Vans - Van spaces will be considered once the trip has been sold out.

Transport

Make sure you add yourself to the Facebook event page to arrange car sharing. If you're not on facebook get in touch and I'll help sort you a lift. The process for car sharing is as follows; if you can offer a lift then post on the facebook event where you live and how many spaces you have, if you want a lift comment underneath that persons post untill the car is full. Costs are set by the driver and split between everyone in the car.

We do not have mountain qualifications, you are choosing to come of your own volition to be around peers. Any questions PLEASE let us know.
