REGISTRATION OPENS AT 13:30hrs, Race Brief 14:30hrs, Race starts at 14:45 hrs

Registration opens at the nearby Town Hall from 13:30hrs where you will be given your race
number, ankle chip timer and swim cap colour. Notice boards will, in accordance with your estimated swim time, display your heat number, lane number, race order and cycle & run route maps.

TRANSITION AREA

Before the event starts your bike must be placed in the transition area rack allocated to your race number. Any clothing you require during the event should be left beside your bike.

There is no entry to the transition area after the race briefing starts. Transition will remain closed throughout the duration of the race. This means you will be unable to remove your bike/belongings after your race until all other competitors have completed their race.  This rule is to ensure that all competitors get a fair race.

Swim
400m (16 lengths) of a 25 metre 5 lane pool set at a comfortable 28.5c. There will be 4 heats swimming off at approx 20 minute intervals starting with the slowest heat according to your estimated swim times.
There will be 6 swimmers in each lane of 5. You will be set off at 5 second intervals according to your swim cap colour. Lanes will be in clockwise / anticlockwise / clockwise order. If the swimmer behind you taps your feet you will stop briefly and allow them to pass on reaching the end of each lap, and vice versa. At the completion of your 16th lap (400m of our 25m pool), the lane counter will direct you to leave the pool safely, via your own lane. Walk carefully on blue non slip mats out of the pool as directed by the pool marshals. You will be directed across the timing mat, your ankle timing chip will bleep and you will thereafter enter transition area and uplift your bike.

Cycle
It is compulsory to wear a correctly adjusted BS Approved cycle helmet. Once securely fitted up rack your bike and push it out of transition and only mount once you've crossed the mounting line, as directed by the transition marshals.
The route is on public roads open to vehicular traffic. Cyclists should take care at all times and must obey the rules of the Highway Code. Marshals at junctions can give directions only and cannot control / direct traffic.
The route is 14km on a quiet country road of good quality surface. The terrain is fairly flat apart from a few slightly challenging hill climbs on the outward leg.
Description - turn left out of Pool car park onto A76 for 200m, turn right on roundabout  following B741, continue on this road for 7km until Knockburnie Farm where Event marshals will assist you with a safe U turn. Return via the same route to transition area at swimming pool. On return to transition car park you will be directed by police and / or marshals back towards transition and must rack your bike at your previously allocated spot, remove your cycle helmet and prepare for the final run stage.

Run
A 4km flat run consisting of 2 anti-clockwise laps around the village on tarmacadam footpaths, returning to finish at the Pool.

Once again your ankle timer chip will record your cycle splits as you cross over the timer mat,
transition marshals will direct you safely out of the transition car park, you will be directed left
and will start your 2km x2 run laps.

On completion of your 2 run laps you will be directed by transition marshals through the
centre of the car park where you will see the timer banner, run through it, you are finished and
you will receive your medal.

Full details of your race position, split times, etc will be available shortly thereafter.

Presentations & Hospitality
Prize presentations will take place as soon as the last triathlete is safely home.
In keeping with our village's highly acclaimed hospitality several local volunteers have already offered to prepare some sandwiches, home baking, tea, coffee etc at the Town Hall for immediately after our presentation. This has been well received in previous years.
And finally, for all those contemplating their first Triathlon event, this is the one for you as you will receive all the help, advice and encouragement possible from organisers and fellow triathletes.

PARKING
There is ample parking in a designated area immediately next to the transition car park, marshals will be in attendance to direct you on your arrival. Overflow car parks are also available next to the church and  at Castle Shopping Arcade near to the local filling station.

FACILITIES
Changing and shower facilities are available free to competitors in the swimming pool.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Local media services will be in attendance in order to take photographs of this event and its participants. Please can you advise the organiser if you have any objections to photographs being taken.
