Rhayader Running Club DOWNHILL 5K (ish) 2026

New for 2026 - run over Craig Goch Dam with its stunning views then enjoy our fast, downhill course in the stunning Elan Valley. 

The race starts at 7.30pm close to Craig Goch reservoir (SN 89239 68640).  Race number collection will be between 6.00pm and 6.45pm at the registration/finish (SN 91511 67310).  There is parking available at the registration/finish however as it is limited please try to car share if possible.  The start is a 2 mile walk, which will be signposted.  There will also be a minibus shuttle to the start but seats might be limited.  There are toilets close to the start.   

Online entries only.  Entry fee £12.00 with a £2.00 discount for members of Welsh Athletics and a £2.00 discount for members of Rhayader Running Club.  Online entries close at 6pm on Sunday 10th May.   You must be age 14+ on race day.

The race starts on an open road but soon follows a downhill section of the Elan Valley trail, the final straight is back on tarmac finishing close to Ty Penbont Tearooms. The race is suitable for runners of all abilities, however is regrettably unsuitable for wheelchair athletes.

All runners will receive an email with full race day details prior to the event.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd winners and the first male and female in each age category.  Presentations will take place after the race in Ty Penbont Tearooms.

Welsh Athletics race licence issued.

Due the descent of the route it will not be eligible for Power of Ten results etc.  Although we can assure you that it will be 5k (ish) and more importantly the descent is approximately 400ft!
