Organiser's Description

Start Time:  7.00 pm

Age Restrictions:  Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

The Stuart Duncan Memorial 5k Run is an out and back course held on a traffic-free tarmac path (Boblingen Way) and is organised to support local charities and good causes in Stuart's memory.   A contribution this year will be donated to an ongoing fundraiser for Joscelyne Kerr who attended Auchmuty High School in Glenrothes and is a friend of Margaret Duncan's granddaughter, Kayla.  Joscelyne has one of the world's rarest cancers and her family have pledged to do everything they can to help find a cure.    Joscelyne was diagnosed with a brain tumour last December and given only 12 to 18 months to live.     The 18-year old is believed to be just one of six or seven people in the world with a tumour called an anaplastic pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma.      Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have not been successful and, while it is hoped that the drugs she is taking will slow the spread of the cancer, there is currently no cure.   Her normally private family has launched a £250,000 fundraiser in the hope of raising enough money for pioneering brain immunotherapy which is not available on the NHS.

Registration is at The Lomond Centre, Woodside Road, Glenrothes KY7 5RA commencing at 6.00pm.   The Centre is five minutes from the start.   There is ample parking and toilets available but changing facilities are not likely to be available depending on the Covid-19 restrictions in force at the time of the race.

All participants will receive a commemorative medal and the first female and first male runner will each be awarded a Stuart Duncan Memorial Trophy which they will hold for a year.
