Dymock Half Marathon
27 May 18
Welcome to the 28th Dymock Half Marathon. Our annual event runs through the rolling countryside of the Gloucestershire Herefordshire borders.
The course runs through beautiful rural countryside. It's a road race, but mainly on the lanes with only about 600 yards of B road. It would best be described as hilly/undulating and as such not one for a PB, although we are confident a new course record could be set this year and there will be a prize for a course record.
Starting off from Dymock Cricket Club, we swing South out of the village through small country lanes crossing the M50 for the first time at Four Oaks, a quick detour around Holder's lane (The Beast) deposits us on the Kempley road heading North into Queen's Wood (the epicentre of the famous Daffodil Walk) and onto the pretty village of Kempley. Once through Kempley, turning at Kempley New Church, the route tends North on a gradual incline towards Much Marcle, before doubling back past Kempley Old Church and the historic Memorial Oak (location of the last drinks station) before returning to Candle Cottage on the edge of Kempley prior to veering back Eastward for the final few miles back to Dymock, past the Beauchamps Arms and sprint to a finish at Dymock’s Cricket club to receive your well earned Medal and limited edition technical T shirt.
Well, we say 28th; but who’s really counting? You know rural Gloucestershire, it’s not as though time is too pressing. The relaxed atmosphere adds to the charm of the event. We certainly started in ’87 (at least we think that’s what John, the founder would tell you) but there’s been the odd gap and missed year. However, like all good traditions you can’t put down a cannon-started, sociably competitive, BAA recognised event that has dominated the village's late Spring Bank Holiday for decades!
Parking is in the field opposite the Beauchamp Arms public house, although there will be disabled parking at the Cricket Club. There will be refreshments available for runners/spectators and, weather dependant, there will be entertainment for children as well as spectators and runners.
Directly following the Half Marathon why not join us for some food and drink, music and dancing as Dymock Cricket Club proudly presents "Sounds at the Pound". Runners get a free ticket with any supporters welcome to purchase on the day, plus not to leave the kids out they will be able to enter thier own childrens races.
Come and join us.
Registration and number collection will take place at Dymock Cricket Club from 8am to 9.00am. Race starts at 9.30am from the Cricket Club.
The address is The Pound, Dymock, GL18 2AD
