Cheltenham Tri in the Park Junior & Adult Triathlon
21 Jul 2018
Cheltenham Tri in the Park is Cheltenham Triathlon Club's family friendly off-road super-sprint triathlon set within the beautiful boundaries of Cheltenham’s Pittville Park…
An indoor pool swim followed by an off-road cycle and run around the park this triathlon is ideal for families, those who are new to the sport and seasoned triathletes looking to try something a little bit different!
Our Junior Triathlon sold out in 2017 - this year we have opened more entries!
Provisional Race Day Timetable: (Tri in the Park is an afternoon event).
Once again the junior event will take place before the adult race - hopefully making TiTP perfect for families wishing to give triathlon a go!
15.30: Adult Race Compulsory Race Briefing Poolside (10 Minutes before each wave thereafter)
Our selected charity for 2018 will be annouced shortly.
Refunds: Please note that once entry is made if you are unable to compete we will be happy to hold payment and offer entry to the next race next year. Identities are carefully checked at event registration and anyone attempting to take another person's place on race day will not be permitted to race. Please try to be as accurate as possible with entry information - changes to entry details (such as name, date of birth and estimated swim time...) cannot be made once entry to the event closes on 7th July 2018.
Registration takes place in the leisure centre lobby with compulsory race briefing for competitors poolside 10 mins before start time.
Race start times will be emailed out when our online entries close 2 weeks prior to race day. Any last minute event changes, detailed information and the start list will also be published on our website and facebook event page.
The Tristars Youth Category will race alongside adults on the adult course. The minimum age is 15 years at 31st December 2018.
Please note: This event is limited to 130 competitors so early entry is highly recommended.
Our 2017 race information pack with important information, FAQs and course details from last year is available on our website http://www.cheltenhamtri.org.uk
Bike: The 10km cycle is entirely off road circumnavigating the perimeter of the park. The course does not require technical mountain bike expertise (or bravery!) however an off-road, mountain or hybrid bike is recommended. The course will be 5 laps around the park and pitch and putt golf course.
Run: The single lap run is off-road and mixed terrain (mainly grass) it is approx 2.5km around the park and will be an enjoyable end to the race!
Cheltenham Tri in the Park Training Course/Workshop returns in 2018!
Once again we are offering 16 adult participants (people who have signed up to Cheltenham Tri in the Park 2018) the chance to experience run and swim training with our club.
The course will consist of progressive swimming and running training sessions delivered in 8 sessions over 4 weeks in the lead up to our event, designed exclusively to help introduce those new to the sport and/or reinforce best practices and good training skills for triathlon.
We hope it will give novice triathletes the confidence to prepare for Tri in the Park and future races and offer the more experienced competitors new ideas whilst training within an encouraging, coached club environment.
I was quite sure I didn’t have the skills for the swim – which I considered the most daunting part of the three disciplines. So I enrolled on the TITP workshop, which was held on the lead up to the to the Tri in the Park - a month’s course to gain experience and skills for the running and swimming elements. The workshop was held by Tri Club coaches whom all have a wealth of knowledge in coaching, training and participating in Triathlons at all levels. The two disciplines were held at the Lido and local parks for the running. This gave me the initial knowledge and confidence, to give it a go. With a certain degree of apprehension at the start and a few nudges from other Tri Club members I found the workshop hugely beneficial, having done the Tri and now looking back it was invaluable for the a less than experienced triathlete. I came away elated having finished the TITP, I have subsequently become a member of the Tri Club and since joining I have learnt a lot giving me the skills and assurance to enter other events.

Due to popular demand we have increased numbers to 150 junior competitors - last year we sold out so early entry is highly recommended!
Please note: ALL child entrants MUST be able to swim the distance specified in their age group category confidently using breaststroke or front crawl strokes only.
We would love to let all children have a go at our race however due to the safety of all of our competitors we must ask parents/guardians to ensure that children are able to exit the pool, find and collect their bicycle (on their own) and confidently cycle and run around the course. Children will have timing chips attached to their ankles (as the adults do) and in line with BTF rules must understand and be able to count their own lengths/laps. We do, of course, have plenty of friendly marshals in the pool area, on the course and in transition to help direct, support, cheer on and aid the children whenever needed! Children will be well briefed at the start of the race and we welcome spectators encouraging competitors (providing spectators remaim outside of the course).
Children will race in their age group categories and races will start at staggered times. Youngest racing first.
