This race is in memory of Charlie Kilshaw.  Charlie typified the spirit of Garscube Harriers.  He was a lovely man; warm and friendly to members – new and old – went out of his way to help others, and represented the club in many races from 2000 till 2012.  Charlie was never the fastest runner, but his enthusiasm, determination and effort to run his best endeared him to the hearts of Garscube runners at all races.

Race details

The Charlie Kilshaw memorial race is a 5-mile race around the reservoirs at the Milngavie Waterworks, Milngavie Road, Strathblane, Glasgow, G62 8LQ.

The race will take place on Thursday 16 July 2026 and the start time is 7.30pm.  The race will involve two loops of the reservoirs (one big loop, one small loop), finishing at the James M Gale memorial.  

Registration and number collection takes place at the James M Gale memorial - the what3words reference is as follows: what3words-///opera.privately.themes.  It is around a 10-minute walk from registration to the start line.

Age restrictions

Runners must be 15 or older on the day.

There will be a junior race for under 17s, and a senior race for all other entrants.  The junior and senior race will both compete over the 5-mile route.

Parking

Due to there being parking restrictions in the local area, we have arranged parking at the local Nuffield Health centre.  There will be a cordoned off area that entrants can park in.  Please car share where possible.

Toilets/changing facilities

There is a public toilet near to registration.  There are no changing or shower facilities.

Registration

Registration will be from 6.30pm, near the James M Gale memorial: what3words-///opera.privately.themes.  Numbers will be provided at registration.  There will be no entries on the night.

In accordance with the policy of SAL athletes may enter as male, female or non-binary.

Entry fees

The entry fee for the Charlie Kilshaw memorial race is £12 with a discount of £2 for members of Scottish Athletics.  All the money raised will be donated to the club’s charities for the year.
