5 Miles

Starting at the Park Gate Inn, the route takes you across the beautiful Dodford countryside, into the valley before entering the spectacular scenery of Nutnells Woods. Looping around the route heads over some quiet Dodford lanes and back into the valley up into the fields, back across Fockbury Road and back to the Park Gate pub for a well deserved drink!

10 Miles

Again starting at the Park Gate Inn, this route tracks the 5 mile course for around 4 miles but then turns left out of Nutnells Woods into more breathtaking scenery in the Chaddesley Woods nature reserve. The route is trickily undulating and not recommended for novice trail runners. Next up is another beautiful wooded location, this time in Pepper Woods where another incline will test tired legs. Then heading across a challenging bridle path before a real treat of a descent towards the village hall, another steep incline, then back down to the valley before you reach “the steps” then you’re not far from the finish!

Taking Part

How tough is the run?

This is a challenging course.  If you are new to trail running the 5 mile option would be for you.  If you opt for the 10 mile route please be mindful of the cut off times.

The first water station/check point must be reached in 35 minutes from when you set off.  This is an average of 16.5 minute miles, this terrain in the wet is particularly challenging, and really slows you down.  If you don’t think you can make it to the first water station in this time, which is at 2.5 miles in, then enter the 5 mile route.  If you’re running the 10 mile route and miss the cut off time you’ll be diverted onto the 5 mile route, and will still get your medal.

The second water station/check point is at Pepper Wood, at approximately 7 miles, you’ve got 2 hours to reach this point.  Anyone who hasn’t reached the second check point in 2 hours will be offered a lift back to The Park Gate or given the option to return on foot without marshals on the route.

This is a social run, so enjoy with friends at a comfy pace or feel free to push yourself. It’s mostly trails with stiles, kissing gates, fields, mud, and long grass. Trail shoes are recommended and expect to get dirty.  Bring some clean clothes to change into for the post run party!

If I haven’t ran this before, how can I predict my time?

We are asking entrants to give a predicted time. This is because we are using a new timing and wave system. The terrain cannot be compared to running on the road, and this course takes an extra 20% effort/time in completing. Have a look at our previous event finnisher times. If you think you might finish in the top 20, you can opt to go in the speedy wave, but most of our runners like to enjoy this event as a social run, and enjoy the scenary, and post event socialising with friends.

Do I need trail shoes?

Trail shoes are usually recommended but it depends on the weather at the time. Check recent weather and forecasts to decide. There are some steep banks and normally muddy sections.

Are there any age limits?

For the 10 mile route runners should be over 18 and be of sufficient physical fitness for the challenging course. If under 18’s are interested in this event they can enter the 5 mile route but must be accompanied by an adult within sight at all times. The Family Dash is available to anyone 4 and over, under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Will you send me a run number?

Yes, we are sending out number and chips before the event.

What time does the run start?

*Change from previous events*

The Family Dash will start at 9am. The first wave of the 10 mile route will run will start at 10:00 and then each wave at 20 minute intervals until 11am.

Can I run with my dog?

Yes, but only one dog per runner please, and dogs need to be kept under control, on leads and away from the livestock on the course.  There are plenty of stiles to test your dogs agility!  Some of them have “dog doors”, many don’t, so if your dog isn’t particularly agile, or you’re unable to lift them over, the route may not be appropriate.

Can I volunteer?

If you’re unable to run then you can still take part!  This event couldn’t take place without the support of volunteers, if you would like to help out please contact us via email or via our facebook page.  There are several roles, marshals out on the course, at water stations, at base or run marshals running the route assisting runners. Anyone volunteering will receive a Bumble Bimble snood or t-shirt as a thank you.
