Beccles Triathlon 2017
Welcome to the registration for the (award winning) Beccles Triathlon’s 5th anniversary.
The event itself takes place on Sunday 4th June 2017. And this will be an extra special 5th birthday year as we bask in the glory of our award as the Eastern Region Club Event of the year 2016.
We're hoping it's going to be a brilliant day for those who are new to triathlons and seasoned athletes, as well as a real spectacle for townsfolk and visitors to our lovely little corner of the Waveney Valley.
There will be a prize giving at the end with our beautifully crafted Beccles Triathlon trophies going to the first male, first female and first relay team, as well as prizes for places and age group winners.
We’ve initially released 140 places, and last year we sold out in 39 minutes. As soon as the entry list is full, a waiting list automatically opens - so complete your registration as instructed on screen and your name will be added to the waiting list. We will be offering a further 10 spaces in March for people who want to race in aid of Beccles Lido, so let us know by emailing if you want to be invited to enter and we can send details of how to raise sponsorship money.
With the magnificent, award-winning Lido at its heart, this unique triathlon weaves competitors around the pretty Waveney Valley countryside, through quiet Suffolk villages and along the Waveney River towpath, finishing in the friendly market town of Beccles itself, back at the Lido.
A sprint distance triathlon, competitors will swim 480m (16 lengths) in the heated outdoor pool at Beccles Lido in Puddingmoor before embarking on a 20.3km cycle route through the villages of Gillingham and Geldeston, up to the world famous Chicken Roundabout at Ditchingham, past Wainford Maltings and back along the scenic and undulating edge of the Valley to Beccles. The event concludes with a 6.7km run via Beccles Quay and along the Waveney River towpath.
The bike route has been specially designed to incorporate only left turns – making it safer and cyclist friendly. Marshals will be out in force to give guidance, encouragement and to help keep everyone safe.
All routes are available to download from the Beccles Triathlon website www.becclestri.com.
