The DYFI 13 km

It's BIG SUNDAY

The UK's longest estuary swim, The DYFI 13.

Swim from the beautiful beach in Aberdovey all the way up to the tidal limit of the Dovey estuary covering 13km of splendour, a journey that transitions from coast to mountain, from sea to river. Quite simply a stunning adventure and a superb challenge.

Water Temperature

At the start expect 15/16 degrees; at the finish around 14 degrees.

There will be significant tidal assistance for the first 10km, the vast majority of swimmers will finish in less than 3 hours. If you can swim consistently for 2.5 hours at 3km/h then you are in the right ball park.

The DYFI 13 is a special, and adventurous challenge.

Entry fee includes

  • Private coach transport from registration (in Pennal) to the start point (in Aberdovey)
  • Full safety cover
  • Aid station

The TAFOL TUMBLE 8km

THE TAFOL TUMBLE 8km

Starting form the Aberdovey beach you will swim around the Jetty, on past the picturesque village and Penhelig corner, carry on past the Roman Road, Picnic Island, The Outward Bound Trust, the small castle (Trefri), and on all the way to a pebbly beach where the River Tafol joins the River Dovey at the settlement of Abertafol. This is the half-way mark.

At Abertafol you will "tumble-turn" and swim back to Aberdovey, your turn will (more or less) coincide with the turning of the tide. Expect the middle third of this swim to be the most challenging as it is likely that you will be swimming against a little tide during this time, but not for long - you will soon have the tide back on your side.

The last 100m is good fun swimming across a significant tide into the salvation of Aberdovey beach!

The TAFOL TUMBLE is 8km of challenging, engaging and adventurous swimming. Expect slight tidal assistance in the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th kilometre, the rest will be close to neutral.

Be a Tafol Tumbler!

There will be a feed station available at the 4km point (the turnaround point).

BEAT THE TIDE 4 km

BEAT THE TIDE 4km

This is quite a special swim, one of the most beautiful & interesting estuary swims in the UK.

You will start on Aberdovey beach just west of the iconic Jetty. The swim takes you around Aberdovey Wharf and Jetty, on past the picturesque village, the fishing boats and Penhelig corner. You will then carry on past Picnic Island and The Outward Bound Trust up to a big yellow house, and to what looks like a small castle (Trefri) on an island.

This "castle" will be the turnaround point, at high tide it sits on an island reminiscent of something out of an Enid Blyton adventure. The tide will turn at some point during the middle third of the swim. Expect a little tidal assistance during the 1st and 4th kilometre, the 2nd and 3rd kilometre are more neutral.
