The UK's longest estuary swim, The DOVEY 13.

Swim from the beautiful beach in Aberdovey all the way up to the tidal limit of the Dovey estuary covering 13km of splendour, a journey that transitions from coast to mountain, from sea to river. Quite simply a stunning adventure and a superb challenge.

Water Temperature

At the start of the swim around 15 degrees, and at the finish around 13 degrees.

There will be tidal assistance, it's expected that most swimmers will finish in less than 3 hours. If you can swim consistently for 2.5 hours at a minimum of 3km/h then you are in the right ball park.

Now in it's second year The DOVEY 13 is a special, and adventurous challenge.

£70 (+ £2.80 entrycentral processing fee)

Entry fee includes coach transport from registration (in Pennal) to the start point (in Aberdovey), full safety cover, full reconaissance, aid stations, commemerative gifts for all swimmers, top 3 prizes from HEAD Swimming (in 2018 the winner won a wetsuit RRP £340), event photos by Dan Wyre Photography, and post-swim refreshments.

In 2018 the first swimmer "came up the ladder" after 1h 58m and the last swimmer "came up the ladder" at 3h 56m.

THE TAFOL TUMBLE 8km £45 (+£1.80 entrycentral processing fee)

Starting form the Aberdovey beach you will swim around the Jetty, on past the picturesque village and Penhelig corner, carry on past the Roman Road, Picnic Island, The Outward Bound Trust, the small castle (Trefri), and on all the way to a pebbly beach where the River Tafol joins the River Dovey at the settlement of Abertafol. This is the half-way mark.

At Abertafol you will "tumble-turn" and swim back to Aberdovey, hopefully your turn coincides with the turning of the tide. Expect the middle third of this swim to be the most challenging as it is likely that you will be swimming against a little tide during this time. Oh and the last 100m is good fun swimming across around 4 knots of tide into the salvation of Aberdovey beach!

The TAFOL TUMBLE is 8km of challenging, engaging and adventurous swimming.

Be a Tafol Tumbler!

There will be a feed station available at the 4km point (the turnaround point).
