Organiser's Description

Hi, welcome to the SURLY100 2025

After the success of our first SURLY100, we are please to announce it’s back for 2025 and includes a shorter 100k route option as well as the 100 mile.

Info:

THE SURLY100 is a Bikepacking event in the Beautiful Cotswolds Hills, with 2 distances, 100 miles, or 100k, (62 miles).

The ride starts and finishing at the Pelican Inn, Gloucester, with a halfway campsite at Buckshead Farm. The routes are designed for gravel and mountain bikes, with a mix of singletrack, quiet country lanes and stunning views. On completion of the ride you can take advantage of the afterparty at the Pelican, food and lubrication on hand. It might be a good idea to pre-book a stay somewhere on the Saturday night.

Ride Details:

  • Format: a self supported bikepacking adventure over 2 days

  • Start time: The ride starts at 9am on Friday 4th July from the Pelican Inn. Its not a race so you don't have to rush to start but we ask you to leave before 9.15am.

  • Halfway Campsite: Buckshead Farm Campsite, flat field with toilets, shower and water. Food is ready for you for Friday night/ Saturday Morning.

  • The Route: 100 miles or 100k split over 2 days. For 2025 there is a special feature on the second day. “The Dunc”! This was Mr SURLY UK, Duncan Kennedy’s idea for the 2025 event, Duncan passed away in July 2024. It seems only fitting to name this after him.

  • Entry:

    • SURLY100 2025 - £95

Note: when you sign in, tell us which distance you are doing. You will have both routes sent to you incase you change your mind.

  • Navigation: A GPX route file will be supplied so you can navigate with your device. NO SIGNAGE ON ROUTE!

  • Pub Guide: Yes there will be a pub guide, with places to get food and refreshments, also our contact number.

  • Bike: If your bike is suitable for riding offroad over rough terrain and can carry everything you need for the weekend then that’s the bike for this event. And yes a Gravel bike will be fine if you arte used to rough terrain. (SORRY. NO E-BIKES) Ebikes really complicate things with flat batteries, bike specification (ie homemade) It just adds cost and workload and insurance costs.

  • Terrain: Cotswolds singletrack, woodland, country lanes, gravel downhills and tow paths.

  • Gear you must have: A reliable bike, a cycle helmet, lights, a means to carry enough water, first aid kit, phone or GPS for navigation, multitool, tool kit, puncture repair kit, tent/bivi bag/tarp.

  • Insurance: You will need your own insurance.

  • Refunds: Entries can be transferred only. The cut-off for transfers is one week before the start of the event.

  • Alternative route: If you feel you've had enough after the first day, we can supply a route back to the finish. But, don't let the temptation get the better of you, the second day is easier. If you do choose this option PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU TELL US!

  • Do not litter, drop gel rappers or anything else. Leave no trace, even when riding.

  • Wear a proper cycle helmet.

  • You must have working lights on your bike. Yes its summer but even on a major busy road you should at least have your rear light on.

  • You have a choice this year, you can carry all your gear as normal or, we can take it to the campsite for you. Up to you. But make sure you sort this in time before the start and also put your name IN your bags.

  • You must contact us if you wish to withdraw from the event. We do not want to be hunting for you for days. Our contact details will be supplied at sign on.

  • If you are injured your first contact should be the suitable medical service, not us. It just slows things up. This also applies should you find somebody in need of assistance.

  • No Electric bicycles/E-bikes. It really complicates things should you have power issues. Very sorry.
