Scurry Around Cramond Island 5 mile run - 2022
A unique multi terrain 5 mile sunset running event encompassing Edinburgh's tidal Cramond island. A chance to run a mile out to sea and to take in some great views across the river Forth towards Edinburgh and the Forth Bridges.
**LIMITED ENTRIES IN YEAR 1**
The run will be a clearly marked and marshaled undulating mixed terrain route. Starting by the boardwalk beach club cafe the run takes in a short scenic off road loop in the field behind the Roman Fort and Cramond Kirk before heading down towards the island crossing. It is around a mile from the Promenade to the island and there is a short hill climb across the island before circumnavigating the beach around the back of the island. Returning along the same route to the finishline. The terrain will be a mix of tarmac, grass, single track path, uneven tarmac, sandy beach and rocky surfaces. Depending on weather conditions puddles will be expected on the causeway.
Registration will be by the start from 5.30pm onwards.
6.45pm start – By the Boardwalk beach club cafe.
We aim to confirm race timings in the pre race information which will be sent in the week leading up to the event. We ask runners to be ready to start the run between 6.30pm and 6.45pm.
Assuming a 6.45pm start we will expect all runners to be making it back off the causeway (at 3.5 miles) after 50 minutes to complete their run i.e. by 7.35pm after which the marshals will be walking back in. This would assume the slowest runner can achieve a 12-14 minute 1 mile pace on a mixed terrain course.
Pre-entry online only (no entry on the day). Over 16's only.
Each competitor will receive a race memento (t shirt or other tbc) at the finishline.
Scurry Events are hosting this event and will be looking to provide some community support in the form of a charitable doantion to one or two local charities tbc and the local RNLI at South Queensferry.
Active Root will be providing a post race drink and water will be provided at the finish with an additional banana and Tribe bar.
Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 male and female runners and the first O40 M and O40 female runner unless in the top 3 then we there will be a roll down.
To ensure safety the wearing of earphones is strictly prohibited. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed to accompany runners on the course. This event is not suitable for push chairs, baby prams or run buggies.
We will look forward to seeing you there.
