Pail Merk Mile  Entry Information

In the build up to Gala Harriers 2027 125 year aniversary the  club will be organising a new event.

"The Pail Merks Mile"

To test this event there will be trial event this year on 11th September 2026 which will only be available to runners based in the Scottish Borders. The mile event is suitable to runners of every pace from first-time milers to experienced racers.

Eligibility

• Open to Borders clubs and Borders-based runners only
• Age groups Scottish Athletics U12 and above (Age as 31st December 2026)
• All abilities welcome

Pacing & Heats

All entrants must provide an estimated mile time mm:sec when entering (a best guess is fine). After entries close, runners will be allocated a heat based on their estimated mile time.

Heats will progress through the evening from steadier pace groups to faster races, ensuring a supportive and enjoyable experience for everyone. First-timers are very welcome.

Event Ethos

This is an inclusive, community focused event with DJ and lighting. All pace groups are valued equally, the focus is on personal challenge.

Timing & Competition Status

Hand timing will be used.  therefore times are not eligible for record purposes!

• Time: Registration from 18:00 first heat 18:30 (Finishes approx. 21:30)
• Venue: Tweedbank Sports Complex TD1 3RS
• Entry: Borders runners only via Entry Central 
• Entry Fee £5
• Pail Merk Memento for top 3 in each heat.
