New Members Weekend - Peak District 2023

26 May 2023 - 29 May 2023

New Members Weekend - Peak District 2023 has now closed and you will not be able to sign-up for it. Please check the Organiser's Description for any organiser updates.
This event is in a testing state, and is not open for public sign-ups until the organiser has launched it.

Organiser's Description

Welcome to the payment page for our New Members club trip!

We have booked the Roaches Bunk House, it has space for 36 people.

The hut is right next to the Roaches but the climbing could be anywhere in the Peak district. We will have different activities and training depending on the level of people coming along so be sure to let people know your skill level.

You don't need any outdoor climbing experience so remember to invite those friends that have said they'd be interested, so they can get a taste of what a trip is like.

Costs

For insurance reasons these trips are aimed at ESC members and for that reason they will have been emailed a discount code. If you are not a member and try to use the code your ticket will be invalidated by us and give me a headache so please don't! The discount code only works for one person at a time so if you want to pay for multiple people with a code just buy one ticket at a time. If you joined after that email went round please message a committee member for the code.

Note: most new members will count as prospective members and don't need to sign up before the trip, unless they wish to start signing up with the discounts.

If you're not a member of the club you count as a prospective member for insurance reasons (ie are covered) for the first three months since you first did a club activity. If you've been coming on club trips for longer than that you'll need to join up to come. The link for that is here: Entrycentral.com/esc

The breakdown of the costs is as follows:

3 nights ESC member - £50 (usual discount code)

3 nights NON member - £60

Transport

Make sure you add yourself to the Facebook event page to arrange car sharing. If you're not on facebook get in touch and I'll help sort you a lift. The process for car sharing is as follows; if you can offer a lift then post on the facebook event where you live and how many spaces you have, if you want a lift comment underneath that persons post untill the car is full. Costs are set by the driver and split between everyone in the car. There will be a whatsapp group for the event if you message one of the committee to ask, or they may find you once booked.

Activies for the weekend

Friday - Earliest arrival 16:00

For the new members - We are aiming to get one good full day of climbing under complete supervision and guidance, with a training plan to help move you forward with your outdoor climbing skills. The second day will be a more informal day of grouping up with other members, we will make sure every new member is looked after. The bank holiday Monday will be a free day for everyone to decide. New members that don't require any teaching - all the days will be more informal joining older members at the crags :)

Hi everyone👋 Just wanted to put a message out about the New Members Weekend in May and answer some FAQ’s

1. Who can come for the weekend and climb on top rope?

Anyone! As long as they have helmet, harness and shoes

2. Is the trip open to all club members?

Yes! There are plenty of spaces for everyone, including existing club members that want to come and climb independently

3. Virtual leading

There will be virtual leading setups (where the climber is also on a top rope)

Here people can practice lead climbing and lead belaying in a safe way

4. Lead climbing

New members/ novices are welcome to lead climb if confident enough and agreed with teachers

5. Anchor cleaning

Will be taught on the ground by pre agreed people

If people are clearly competent cleaning anchors on the ground they can progress to cleaning an appropriate real route under supervision

What you need to bring

Food and alcohol for the weekend, although you can top up easily enough if needed. The kitchen space doesn't look huge for the number of people. Communal meal or eating out will be discussed in the whatsapp!

You will need to bring sleeping bag, pillows and towels.

Appropriate kit for hiking or walking to crags (If you're not 100% confident please reach out) Including appropriate footwear, that you've broken in, decent waterproofs and warm layers.

Any other gear you have that you need for the activities including a bike if your going biking (or find somewhere nearby to hire one).

Other things of note:

You will need to give the accomodation a light cleaning Monday morning before leaving the bunkhouse check-out is 10am!! I will speak to the hut manager and see if that can be put back a touch later. Work together with everyone to do this, if you don't know what needs doing speak to the trip leader.

Any questions please let us know! :)
