Organiser's Description

Meldon Skyline Fell race and Devon AA Champs

Saturday March 25th 2023

Welcome to the first race of the Dartmoor fell Series 2023 and also the Devon AA Champs. We hope with good weather this will give you some inspiring views and some awsome running. We are starting nice and early, from Meldon dam, so you can enjoy the afternoon but also release the car park for lunchtime walkers. The route is a nice 12.5k and 600m of climb, which is close the the intercounties challenge.

Key timings

We are able to confirm if Juniors  (U9,U11,U13) race will go-ahead ( just had a few volunteers), they will start at 8:40am ; Seniors start at 09:15am (U15 & U17 will start with them but do different course). Please ensure you check in on time.

  • Best Times for the course:   Not yet set - expecting sub 60 mins? but who?
  • Awards for normal ages groups.
  • Plus Devon County Certificates for eligible place winners.
  • The run will be limited to a maximum of 175 competitors

SW Fellrunners and Run Venture are pleased to stage this fell race with supporting younger age group events. The event has an FRA licence, DNPA approval and all courses will be marshalled, we are hoping to have the support of NDSART at highest Checkpoints.  We are welcoming anyone with an interest in off-road running to this new event.

Route for seniors

The navigation should be easy ( did i just say that?) as long as you are not in cloud but even then is good runnable terrain ( mostly). Starting at the dam, after 50 m follow fence up and make your way to Yes tor( checkpoint); tootle past High Willhays and i would follow main path all way round to Fordinlsand ledge ( lookout box - checkpoint), then Zip past Black Tor and try to follow ridge line of Homerton hill ( checkpoint at red 'pup tent' on ridge above weir) , we may mark descent path, drop down to the weir and cross and then 'mosey-on up' to Sourton tor( checkpoint), just the 'home straight' back down to gate( checkpoint) at Southdown that takes you back to Meldon car park. Enjoy! See SWFellrunners website for 'inside line tips'.

Entry For seniors

You have a choice of just the Fell series race or a small additional fee for the Devon Champs. The fee is to is to support travel for Devon AA teams to Lake district on May 7th. We have tried to keep these as economic as possible. Just choose the right tab . Looking forward to see if we can build on our national success of 9th County last year.

Parking
The 'pot-hole pixie ' has been playing in the approach lane so please be careful. we would like to encourage runners to use the bottom 2 levels of the car park - registration will be right at the bottom.

Help and Volunteers and Viewing

We would really appreciate any offers for help especiallyy with junor races - please get in touch if you can help. Also if you want to watch all the races can be easily seen from a little way up path to Sourton tor ( just a few hundred yards in will give you a birds eye view of course) .

When to enter - as early as possible - deadline for on-line entry will be Thursday 23rd March at  20:00hrs .
