Glasgow University Aquathlon 2024

Date: Sunday 3rd March 2024
Events:

Sprint Aquathlon- 750m swim (pool based) & 5km run (footpaths in park)

Novice Aquathlon- 400m swim (pool based) & 2.5km run (footpaths in park)

Location: Glasgow Club Bellahouston 

Sprint prices -  £35.00 

Novice Prices - £17.50

Please note that for both the sprint and novice races, if you are not a British Triathlon Member, you will be required to pay a small additional fee for a race day pass.

Competitors must be 15 years or older (by 31/12/2024) to compete in the Novice event. Competitors must be 17 years or older (by 31/12/2024) to compete in the sprint event. Competitors must be able to complete 30 lengths (sprint) or 16 lengths (novice) within 30 minutes,  to allow for the event flow to be maintained.

This event is paratriathlon friendly. Please contact the race organiser so that we can try to make this event as accessible for you as possible.

The event will take place between 9am and 1pm approximately; the full order of events will be emailed to competitors nearer the time. Parking is free at the sports centre, which is located a few minutes from M8 J24 and M77 J1.

The Sprint Aquathlon run will consist of 2 laps whereas the Novice will be 1 lap. The run route is available to view here: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/5791926223/ 

Glasgow University Triathlon Club looks forward to welcoming competitors of all abilities to Bellahouston park; complete beginners, triathlon enthusiasts and elite athletes alike. The easily accessible sports centre with its range of facilities, as well as a run completely contained within the quiet footpaths of one of Glasgow's stunning parks, makes this a great event for anyone! If you just love a challenge or need to put that winter training program to the test, we look forward to seeing you on the day!

The race will be very similar to the 2023 event but with newly updated finisher merchandise! We will also be providing a charity bakesale at the event.

This event is open to all. While we are a university club, we are delighted to host this public event and we welcome everybody. The Novice Aquathlon is aimed at triathletes new to triathlon in conjunction with Triathlon Scotland. After the event, there will be a prizegiving ceremony for overall winners and age catgeories. Prizes will be awarded in open and female categories for age groups as follows:

Sprint Race: Open category overall 1,2,3. Female category overall 1,2,3. Open senior age category (17-39) 1,2,3. Female senior age category (17-39) 1,2,3. Open veteran age category (40-49) 1,2,3. Female veteran age category (40-49) 1,2,3. Open grand veteran age category (50-59) 1,2,3. Female grand veteran age category (50-59) 1,2,3. Open super veteran age category (60+) 1,2,3. Female super veteran age category (60+) 1,2,3. 

Novice Race: Open category overall 1,2,3. Female category overall 1,2,3.

Bonus prize for the fastest T1 transition.

Students

We are delighted to be working together with Scotish Student Sport (SSS) to host this event as part of a series of races in which universities and colleges can compete against one another. Our timing team on the day will be What's My Time; check them out here: www.whatsmytime.co.uk. They'll be providing a great service on the day and we look forward to working with them! Their service will allow you to follow the event online with live results.

Updates to estimated swim times are permitted until the same deadline of midnight on 25/02/2024.

Withdrawal Policy

Refunds will be issued after the event and as follows:

  • · Withdrawal dated 8 weeks (61 days) or more before the event = 50% credit.
  • · Withdrawal dated 4 weeks to 8 weeks (30 to 60 days) before event = 25% credit.
  • · Withdrawal dated less than 4 weeks (29 days) before event = No (0%) credit.

 

 

 

Prices

To sign-up for this event, the Service Fee is 4% (min 50p) for each sign-up

A British Triathlon Race Pass is required for participants who are not a British Triathlon Home Nation member. For this event, Race Pass costs are £2.00 (plus £0.08 service charge) for participants aged 24 and under, and £8.00 (plus £0.32 service charge) otherwise.
