Race/Route Description

Swim (750m / 400m):

The swim is in the 25m pool in the Fauldhouse Partnership Centre (ample locker space available). Swim waves will be allocated based upon predicted swim times provided upon entry. Although we appreciate that it can be difficult to provide an exact time, we ask you to be as accurate (and realistic!) as you can in order to assist with the smooth running of the event.

If you realise that you have submitted an incorrect time, please contact us before the closing date.  Once we have exported the entries from Entry Central and arranged the heats it will be too late to change your swim time!

Bike (20km / 10km):

New bike route for 2023!  This year the bike route is changing to allow us to offer a mostly traffic free route.

The Spint and Novice route use the same course - with one lap for the Novice distance and two laps for the Sprint distance.

The route starts at the back of the Fauldhouse Partnership Centre car park, as usual and initially go towards Harthill Road.  After about 300m you will turn right at a marshalled junction to ride up Harthill Road.  A further 200m up Harthill Road you will pass a junction with Fala Hill Road.  This short section of the route at the start and end of the ride is open to all road users and as such the Highway Code must be obeyed.

From the junction with Fala Hill Road, the route is on closed roads and you will cycle from here to the bridge just before Greenrigg and back again.

For the Novice distance you will cycle to Greenrigg, turn at the bridge and cycle back to Faulhouse the way you came.

For the Sprint distance you will cycle to Greenrigg, turn at the bridge and cycle back to Fauldhouse, turn again at the junction with Fala Hill Road and then cycle to Greenrigg and turn one final time and cycle back again to Faulhouse (ie; two laps of the section between Fauldhouse and Greenrigg).

As the cycle route is "out and back" you must take care to keep to the left hand side of the road, even when overtaking, so as to keep everyone safe and not interfere with riders coming the opposite way.  You must also take care to be aware of moto officials and any emergency vehicles on the course.

The Novice distance route is visible here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/150371577

Note: Whilst we are keen to encourage all level of abilities, the bike route is hilly ... so some training / a decent level of fitness will be required to complete the event.

Drafting: Drafting is not allowed during this race. You must allow at least a 10 metre zone between you and the bike in-front. You have 20 seconds to pass a rider in front of you – if you fail to pass you MUST drop back to the 10 metres distance. The time penalty for drafting is 2 minutes, which would ruin your race - so don’t do it!!

Run (5.5km / 2.75km):

The main part of the run consists of 1 or 2 laps over quiet (but open) public paths around the forest (on ash paths).  Like the bike route, sections of the run route are uphill.

Please note that whilst the route will be well marked with signs at each turn, and marshals throughout, the responsibility ultimately lies with the athlete to know the course.

Refund Policy:

At the organiser's discretion, refunds (minus the Entry Central and any other admin or card processing fees) will be issued to any competitor who withdrawls as follows:

  • Withdraw before 1st June = 100% refund
  • Withdraw between 1st and 30th June = 100% refund provided that the competitor's space can be filled from the event waiting list.  If the competitor's space cannot be filled then NO REFUND.
  • Withdraw after the 30th June = NO REFUND

If the race is cancelled by the organisers for any reason (including things such as Covid) 75% of the entry fees will be refunded to competitors (minus the Entry Central and any other admin or card processing fees).  We have to do this to cover costs that we can't recover or insure against.  We all hope this doesn't happen!

This year, as per the new British Triathlon Policy (which was effective from 1 January 2023), we will be offering a Female Category (open to athletes who were the female sex at birth) and an Open Category (open to all athletes - including those who were the male sex at birth and any transgender athletes).  For more information on the definitions, background and these categories, please see the British Triathlon Transgender Policy.
