Organiser's Description

Donkey Brae Races 2023

The Donkey Brae Races will once again be part of the annual Aberdour Festival, possibly the best small festival of Scotland’s Summer!

You can register here for the 7-mile and Junior 2-mile race.  There is also a c.1 mile fun run open to all that you can enter on the day.

We will be using chipped bibs for the 7 mile and 2 mile races and results will be published online on the day.

The 7-mile and 2-mile races are Scottish Athletics Licensed events.

Why not bring your friends and enjoy a great day out?  As well as the races, for runners and non-runners alike there will be a fabulous village market with refreshments, entertainment and much more.

This year marks the 39th anniversary of the Festival – there will be a packed 10 day programme of music, events and culture that has something for everyone, all set in the beautiful Fife village of Aberdour.  Donkey Brae Day is on the opening weekend of the festival.  Sign up here for newsletter updates from the Festival to be the first to find out about the exciting programme.

In-race drinks are kindly provided by Active Root; why not pick yourself up some trial sachets and discounts using our exclusive code.

Location
Silver Sands Park, Hawkcraig Road, Aberdour, Fife, KY3 0RQ

Facilities
Toilets. Refreshments will be available to purchase. Hydration stations will be available on the course.  First aid cover provided.

Parking
We encourage runners to travel by public transport where possible as parking is restricted. The car park at Aberdour train station is free, but busy! Aberdour has excellent train links. Please note, parking charges (set by Fife Council, not us) will apply at Silver Sands Park itself.

Start/Finish
The 7-mile race starts at 1pm, closely followed by the 2-mile and finally the Fun Run.  All races start and finish at Silver Sands Park.

Route

2 Mile & 7 Mile
The scenic course is of mixed terrain over undulating coastal paths between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay.  Due to the bridge at Aberdour harbour still being in need of repair, this year’s Donkey Brae run is unlikely to go down and up the Donkey Brae as usual. The alternative route is still to be finalised but is likely to use the closed Main Street in the village for the outward leg and the path alongside the railway for the return leg.

Fun Run
This follows a shorter route around the Silver Sands Playing Fields.  It is ideal for families who want to engage in fun physical activity.  Buggies are welcome but the terrain is tough.

Restrictions
The 7-mile is open to runners over the age of 16 years on the day of the race. The 2-mile race is open to over 9-year-olds on the day of the race. The Fun Run is open to all, but under 9’s must be supervised by a responsible adult.

No dogs allowed. We regret that the course is not suitable for wheelchairs users.

Registration
10am to 12 noon to collect your chipped race number.  You can also enter smaller family members for the Fun Run entry at this time. Please note, access and parking are difficult for late arrivals so please allow plenty of time. There are no refunds for anyone withdrawing from the race.

Fees
7 Mile £15 (£17 non-SAL/UKA registered.) 2 Mile £5 (£7 non-SAL/UKA registered.)  Fun Run £4 on the day.

Prizes
Medals for all finishers. In the 7-mile race there will be prizes for top male and female, and first local man and woman.
