Virtual Sheffield Shuffle for Team Tayside

17 Jul 17

Do you want to help our Team Tayside to go to the Summer Games in Sheffield this August??
Of course you do!!  We are having a Virtual race over two weeks 17 - 30 July 2017

What you need to do
- We would like you as a team of three to walk, run or shuffle the distance from our training ground at Arbroath High School to Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Centre where our Special Olympics GB National Games will be held. That is 335 miles. Don't worry you have two weeks to make it there.

- Record your runs on your fitbit, garmin, map my run, nike running or whatever method you have. If you are using a treadmill take a photo of your work our summary. You can also do cumulative totals from your whole day if you want.

- On the last day of the fortnight we will send you a form to record each participant's total miles and see if collectively you have made it to Sheffield.

- When you return this form we would like you to send us photographic evidence of your runs/walks or shuffles. Remember it can be cumulative miles from the whole day or just your runs. You decide which challenge you want.

When you sign up we will give you a recording form - the cost is £30 per team

Where does your money go?
It will go towards almost 90 athletes from Special Olympics Tayside's plus coaches, volunteers and the Head of the Tayside Delegation from Dundee, Perth and Angus attending the Special Olympics GB 2017 National Summer Games in Sheffield 7-12 August. To send the whole team costs around £90,000 and every person in the team has to contribute to fundraising.  This event is one of the Athletics Squad's fundraisers and you will be helping us to reach that total.

Everyone who makes it to Sheffield will be sent an Award Ribbon similar to the ones presented to athletes at the Games and will have the Special Olympics Tayside logo on it.  At Special Olympics competitions, Award Ribbons are presented to finishers in 4th-8th place.  It is a fundamental principle of Special Olympics Award Ceremonies that no competitor is given more recognition than another and that as much significance is placed on the individual receiving the 8th placed ribbon as on the gold medallist.

Entry costs are non-refundable and entries cannot be transferred.  This event is for people aged 16+
