TriStar & Youth Coach Development Day
Triathlon Scotland are delighted to be hosting a coaching development day specifically for coaches working in the club environment with TriStar and Youth athletes. This will take place at the Triathlon Scotland Offices at the University of Stirling on Sunday the 22nd of March 2020 and will be of particular value to coaches of athletes looking to compete at IRC or British Super Series level or get involved with the Triathlon Scotland Academy.
This session will provide a great opportunity for this key group of coaches to come together to learn from one another, further their understanding of the Performance Pathway and Athlete Development Framework as well as hear from some athletes on their experiences. Throughout the day we will maintain a focus on what this looks like in a club environment with a wide range of abilities and motivations.
The day will run between 1100-1600 with three workshops and a number of opportunities to chat with other coaches about good practice and share any challenges you might be facing. Details of the workshop sessions and an outline schedule can be found below.
In order to get the most out of the day, numbers are limited so make sure you sign up soon to avoid missing out! There is no cost to attend, lunch will not be provided however refreshments and snacks will be available throughout the day.
- Athlete Development Framework in Action:
The Athlete Development Framework, made up of 6 key principles or pillars is about developing more than just swim, bike and run. We want to create independent learners and problem solvers, athletes capable of consistently making the right decisions at the right time no matter the level of expectation.
This workshop, led by Dan Salcedo, British Triathlon Pathway Manager sets out to develop a deeper understanding of the pillars, how they can help ensure everyone is working towards the same goals and ways in which they can be embedded into session taking place in the day in day out club environment.
- The Triathlon Scotland Performance Pathway Uncovered:
This is an opportunity to further understand the British Triathlon and Triathlon Scotland Performance Pathway, dispelling some of the myths that may surround it. Fiona Lothian, Triathlon Scotland Head of Performance will look at the standards and expectations as well as the opportunities and support available at different ages and stages of the pathway.
The session will go on to look at how the Inter Regional Championships (IRCs) and British Super Series support the pathway and discuss different journeys through it. During this session we will hear from Kevin MacArthur about how Edinburgh #3 have supported athletes in the pathway and explore what this means for you in your role coaching young athletes in the club environment.
- Athlete Experiences Q&A:
It is clear that athlete experience is a key to all of this, we want to provide athletes with a positive experience while enhancing their exploration and learning through a process of guided challenge and discovery.
This session will be an opportunity to hear from some athletes about their experiences of the pathway, how their club environment played a part and how they see it working most effectively! This will be informal with lots of opportunity to ask questions.
