Who will be First to cross the Llyn?
Long course – 8km swim & 38km run
2016 Long Course –http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1109205524
Short course – 3km swim & 12km run
Following the tremendous success of Snowdonia Llyn i Llyn, SwimRun UK is delighted to bring Europe’s fastest growing, and most exciting endurance sport to Wales. In particular the area around Llanberis, home of the notorious Slateman and Brutal triathlons and of course Wales highest peak, Snowdon.
This year's LOng Course will virtual repeat this course, but following athlete feedback there will be a few changes to the final swim and run sections in and around Llyn Padarn.
For 2017 we will also be adding a Short Course. This will start and finish in Llanberis and include a partial ascent of Snowdon followed by the final 25% of the long course.
Based upon Sweden’s ÖTILLÖ island to island race, athletes wearing wetsuits will run between lakes (known in Wales as Llyn) and then, whilst still wearing their trainers, swim across these cold mountain tarns on their way to the top of Wales highest mountain – Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa.
The finalised route will be published one month prior to the race, however there will be a minimum of 8 swims and 9 runs with approximately 8km of swimming and 38km of running, including almost 2000m of climbing.
Snowdonia is littered with stunning wild swimming spots. This race will be an ideal opportunity for bored ironman triathletes to visit many of them in the one day.
Entry will open on Friday 22nd September at 7pm via Entrycentral.com
Male Pairs, Female Pairs & Mixed Pairs.
There will be two sprint points with extra prizes.
The route will be marked and marshalled. In accordance with land owner permissions athletes must not deviate from the route agreed. If you do you will be immediately disqualified. Likewise anyone discovered to be littering will also be disqualified.
As a condition of Land Owner permission we will not publish the route until one month prior to the event. This is to prevent large numbers accessing the various llyn without safety cover. It is forbidden for entrants to recce the course prior to the race day.
Swim Run events are possibly the most complex open water swim races in UK history. We will have a large water safety team featuring powered ribs, jet skis, kayaks and land based life guards.
Please ensure that you arean experience and confident open water swimmer.
Water Safety and mountain safety are our biggest concerns. We will be keeping a keen eye on the weather forecast. If our water and mountain safety teams think that the swell will be too big, or the wind too strong up the mountains on the Saturday, we may postpone to the Sunday if the weather looks much more favourable. With that in mind please make sure you are available for either day.
Alternatively if the Sunday forecast also looks poor we reserve the right to modify the route to utilise shallower or safer waters or a low altitude alternative.
TIME CUT OFFS:
There will be three strict time cut offs. After Swim 2, Pen Y Pass before ascending Snowdon and at long Llyn Padarn swim.
