Shindig Duathlon - Lairg
17 Sep 17
The Shindig Duathlon is a sprint distance duathlon located on the banks of Loch and River Shin in the Highlands of Scotland. The Duathlon is raced as a run/bike/run format over the following distances: 4.8km/21km/2.5km. We hope the event will become a regular on the calendar and we hope it will provide a challenge for both experienced athletes and new comers looking to complete their first event. Everyone is welcome!
Minimum age is 15 (age at 31 December 2015). Written parental consent is required for competitors aged 16 or under (i.e. anyone who is not 17 by 31 December 2015).
Race maps and the race pack will be available for download from our website here. Please note that the course route for 2016 will be changed slightly to avoid running on the public road. New maps will be uploaded once this has been confirmed.
Early bird prices are available until 31 July 2016 for individual competitors at a bargin price of £10!
Registration opens 09:00 and closes 10:15
Transition opens 09:15 and closes 10:30
Race briefing 10:45
Race start 11:00
Results and awards around 13:30
Run one will involve a short loop of Ferry Wood followed by a loop of Ord Hill. Run 2 will be one lap of a longer loop in Ferry Wood (which is flat).
NB: This will be slightly different to the 2015 event. Maps of the 2016 route will be available on our website soon.
The bike course will loop around the River Shin firstly heading to Invershin on the A836. A right turn at Invershin onto A837 and another right turn onto the B864 to take you back to the transition area.
You can enter as a team. Teams consist of two people only - one runner and one cyclist. The race will take place at the same time as the main race, so the runner will complete run 1 before tagging the cyclist at transition. After the bike leg the cyclist will tag the runner again, who will complete the run course. The entry fee for the team event is £20 per team.
The race will use electronic timing transponders. Failure to return a transponder will incur a fine of £20.
Shindig trophy for first individual (this can only be taken home if won by a Sutherland resident).
Other prizes TBC - will depend on the number of entrants.
This race is held under the rules of TriathlonScotland and the British Triathlon federation - see
Refund Policy At the organiser's discretion. Refunds are unlikely to be issued after the event closing date.
