Round Strathaven 50 & 15 Charity Cycle Events

19 Aug 2018

PLEASE TAKE CAREFUL NOTE OF CHANGES TO REGISTRATION LOCATION AND FINISH LOCATION FOR 2018.

The Round Strathaven 50 (RS50) and 15 (RS15) Charity cycle events are held every August.

The RS50 is a challenging, fun cycle run ideal for both leisure and club cyclists following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapleton and Auldhouse. The growing number of cyclists who take part see the 50 mile route as presenting them with a very worthwhile challenge. The event has also achieved "fame" for the fantastic home baking available at the various village halls for those who want to make a quick "pit-stop"!

There is also the alternative and equally popular RS15, a 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but equally worth-while challenge and is ideal for families with younger children.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT BOTH EVENTS TAKE PLACE ON OPEN ROADS.

The RS50 was held for the first time in 2002. It has attracted an increasing number of participants each year, and to date has raised over £100,000 for the benefit of both the Strathaven Scouts and Guides and various Charities including Health Help International, and Kasin.

As the event is organised by volunteers and costs are minimised this ensures that almost all the entry fee goes to charity. Participants may choose donate more via an increased entry fee or to raise additional funds for the Charities through sponsorship (sponsor forms can be downloaded from the event website).

Registration – NEW LOCATION: Strathaven Academy, Bowling Green Rd, ML10 6DP. Please note Bowling Green Road is very narrow and best avoided by cars.

Please allow plenty of time (minimum one hour) to park and register. Registration opens from 8.30am. Enter hall through Main Entrance. There is plenty space at the Academy for bikes (NB : security of your bike and possessions are your responsibility).

Registration desks will be clearly identified by surname in alphabetical order for those entered via Entry Central. There will be a separate desk for RS15 entry on the day.

Pre-start - Cyclists will be requested to congregate after registration on the grass areas at the Lethame Road side of Kirklandpark School (same location as previous years). Marshals and signage will indicate route from Strathaven Academy (2 minute walk). Please DO NOT congregate on the road prior to start as this is an OPEN road. Marshals will call cyclists from holding area a few minutes before the start.

Start - Both the 50 and the 15 mile routes will start from Lethame Road at the Kirklandpark School entrance as previous years. We shall close a stretch of Lethame Road for a short period to allow for the mass starts at 10.00am for 50 mile route and 1.00pm for 15 mile route.

Finish – NEW LOCATION: Rear entrance to Strathaven Academy in Crawford Street (ML10 6AE) located about 150m beyond right turn to previous years’ finish. Please take care when turning right into Crawford Street. On completion of your cycle please return your number to the registration desks at Strathaven Academy so that we know you have returned.

Along the well signposted routes there will be Marshalls at various check points and road crossings who are there to monitor progress and to aid safety. The route is such that it is possible to opt out at any stage.

Refreshments are available on the 50 mile route at the village halls in Sandford (at 20 miles) and Glassford (at 30 miles) and at Skeoch Crossroads for both the 50 mile and 15 mile routes (about halfway round the 15 miles). Final refreshments will be available at Strathaven Academy.

A briefing note and map will be emailed to entrants a few days before the event.

PLEASE TAKE CAREFUL NOTE OF CHANGES TO REGISTRATION LOCATION AND FINISH LOCATION FOR 2018.

The Round Strathaven 15 (RS15) and 50 (RS50) Charity cycle events are held every August. The popular RS15 is a 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but very worth-while challenge to the RS50 and is ideal for families with younger children.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT BOTH EVENTS TAKE PLACE ON OPEN ROADS AND THAT CHILDREN MUST BE UNDER DIRECT ADULT SUPERVISION AT ALL TIMES.

Entry cost is £20 per family (2 adults and 3 children max.). Additional donations can be added when registering - please consider this as a way to boost the money that will be raised for this year's charities (see below for more information on the charities).

Please note that the 75 spaces allocated for the RS15 are 75 FAMILY entries.
