Newtownards Foodbank Strangford Cycle
23 Sep 17
Help "Feed the Need" with the Newtownards Foodbank Strangford Cycle.
We're back for our 3rd spin round the beautiful sights of Strangford Lough.
Once again we're starting and ending the cycle at the Compassion Centre on the Crawfordsburn Road. The home of the Newtownards Foodbank and Thriving Life Church.
After many requests we've added an additional shorter route for those who'd really like to help raise some money for the Foodbank but don't feel they could cycle a full 100kms. A 40km route along the quiet country lanes of the Strangford Lough. With a water stop at Nendrum monastic site before a return to the Compassion centre for a BBQ. You've worked hard on the shorter route - you still deserve a burger!
There will be some experienced cyclists on this route giving some encouragment, advice, even a helpful push and making sure everyone gets round on the day.
All profits from this event to will go to the Newtownards Foodbank, helping to provide emergency food for local people in crisis.
There will be a BBQ lunch for all finishers on their return to the Compassion Centre.
The day will take you past a number of well know County Down landmarks, starting and finishing with Scrabo Tower. We will be setting off in an "anticlockwise" direction, heading out towards Comber, Castle Espie nature reserve and following the coast towards Daft Eddy's bar and onwards the picturesque village of Strangford, where there will be a water station and some snacks available to top up your energy.
You will have enough time to catch your breath as you sit back and relax on the ferry crossing to Portaferry and enjoy the views of the Lough and Castleward.
Then we're all back on the bike for the second leg back up the Peninsula, taking in a few fishing villages en-route home to Ards.
A professional photographer will be in place along the route so smile through the pain. Photos will be avalable on our Facebook page, and there is also an opportunity to buy if you're looking particularly pro on the day.
This event will be assisted by a team of marshalls, a sweeper vehicle for breakdowns, along the way we will have a water station, first-aid backup and motorcycle outriders. The nearby Ards Leisure Centre is available with ample showering and changing facilities if required.
Please indicate your choice of route on the day when completing your registration.
