04 Jun 16

Kridaka Yoga are delighted to welcome Caroline McCarter from Texas to share her techniques and her knowledge from her work with yoga for mental health concerns.

This is bound to be a very popular weekend with limited places.

Increasingly, we and our students are finding it difficult to keep up with the pace of our world.  Our mental health is suffering and Yoga has many techniques for addressing this.  Join Caroline for what will be an incredibly worthwhile weekend.

Yoga for Soothing Anxiety

Yoga Therapy is an integrated approach to health and wellness; it brings the ancient insights of yoga into modern wellness programs, utilizes modern scientific, medical and mental health knowledge, in addition to ancient practices of self healing.

We will explore the relationship between Yoga and the mind, and its role in treating stress, and anxiety.  Caroline will lead a practice that will provide you with experiencing first-hand how Yoga can influence your innate ability to self-soothe, self-heal and eventually revive a natural self-regulation system.

The more you know about anxiety and how to fight it, the easier your journey. Not all methods work for everyone, but there is one or more method that will work for everyone.

Then we will cover the practical applications of ancient, traditional Yoga techniques that train the body and mind to employ a natural system of self-regulation. For thousands of years, these techniques have provided evidence of the efficacy of Yoga’s ability to help counteract and manage the negative effects of stress.

What you will take away from this workshop:

  • An experiential practice with movement, breathing, and short meditation.
  • A take-home program with movement and breathing suggestions will be handed out to practice in the comfort of your own home.
  • Knowledge of what types of Yoga techniques to employ for generalized Anxiety.

Yoga to Lighten Depression

Yoga Therapy is a blend of traditional Yoga practices, Ayurveda, and modern medical science. We will explore how movement, breathing, sound and nutrition can lighten up a depressive mind & body. We will not only experience a practice lead by Caroline, but also investigate the relationship between Yoga, the mind, and its role in treating depression.  Through the practice of evidence informed yoga therapy protocols you will learn breath work, meditation, and movement techniques that help to break the psychological, biochemical, and physical cycles that keep depression in your life.

The focus of the training is to give participants an experiential practice with movement, breathing, and short meditation.  Then we will cover the practical applications of ancient, traditional Yoga techniques that train the body and mind to employ a natural lighter state of being in the body, mind, and spirit.

What you will take away from this workshop:

  • An experiential practice with movement, breathing, and short meditation.
  • A take-home program with movement and breathing suggestions will be handed out to practice in the comfort of your own home.

Yoga practices to aid in eating disorder recovery and better body image

There are many reasons one may have a poor body image or an eating disorder; but there is a common thread inside all who suffer with these issues.  At the core it is the mind that produces thoughts, which leads to emotions, then to behaviors, and emotions again, then more thoughts, and subsequently a behavior again.  The pattern is found in all humans, but the eating disorder community is particularly quick witted and intelligent.  Several studies have shown that those with eating disorders tend to have a higher IQ and better working memory.  But, that does not mean they have success with automatic thinking, and the ability to edit unhealthy thought patterns to change the ED behaviors.

This is where Yoga can help.

Yoga Therapy tools such as asana, pranayama, mindfulness and meditation will be taught.

CEUs are available for Registered Yoga Teachers/Therapists.

Bio:

Caroline McCarter's first yoga philosophy course was in 1997 at the University of Michigan. Finding a deep interest in the topic of Yoga she began studying with International Yoga teachers around the nation.  The most important of Caroline’s yoga studies come from the Sri T. Krishnamacharya lineage, who had the greatest influence on yoga in the modern world. He was a master of yoga, scholar of philosophies, and reputable healer. Caroline has proudly attended teachings from 5 of his direct students, most importantly with the Mohan family in Chennai.

A seasoned yoga therapist, she has been providing Yoga therapy sessions since 2007 at her private practice in downtown Austin, Texas (http://www.yoga-rx.com).  Her clientele run the gamut, from scoliosis, severe spinal issues, cancer and partial paralysis, to eating disorders, mood disorders and clinical depression.  She receives students in her quiet studio creating comfort and customized yoga practices, empowering them with home practices to soothe their symptoms.  She is also contracted out by the Texas state mental illness facility, the counseling center at University of Texas, and eating disorder treatment centers for her specialized yoga teachings.

Along with her yoga certifications she holds a Master’s of Science and a Bachelor’s with a music major, and is an exponent of Vedic chanting. She has conducted seminars internationally, is on yoga therapy teacher training faculties, and has also released recordings of Vedic chanting and other Yoga specific chants.
