That's all the places for this year's event now finalised, so well done if you managed to get an entry, apologies to those that didn't, and thank you for supporting. A final information email will be sent out on Friday, and then it's just one more sleep! The weather forecast suggests a mild and calm day but come prepared nevertheless.
Hi folks, welcome to the Tilli 10k, organised by PH Racing Club.
What better way to burn off that Christmas pudding than by coming along to our fast, accurately measured, chip timed 10-kilometre running event, on Saturday 28 December 2019 in Tillicoultry.
Starting and finishing in Tillicoultry, the route traverses the traffic free Devon Way path to Dollar and back again. Further details on the course below.
To ensure all is in order we will be operating per UK Athletics rules and under a Scottish Athletics permit.
We’ve bumped up the available places to 500 this year across the following entry categories:
- Junior 15-17
- Senior 18-39
- Master 40-44
- Master 45-49
- Master 50-54
- Master 55-59
- Master 60-64
- Master 65-69
- Master 70+
Once you’ve entered you will receive a confirmation email including reminder details on the event. All you now need to do is keep training and turn up to registration on the 28 December to collect your race number and timing chip and free beer.
If you are unable to run and wish to nominate a substitute, you will be able to make this change yourself before the closing date on Sunday 22 December at no extra charge.
A very small waiting list of 25 places will be implemented and come into operation once the event is full, but this list is only to cover transfer or drop-out places if they appear. You are not guaranteed a run if you are on this list.
Given the time of year and the various logistics involved, we want a break too, so no entries or transfers will be possible beyond the 22 December, including on race day, so please don’t ask.
Likewise, there will be no refunds given once you enter, so please don’t take a place if you’re unsure about running on the day. If the race is unable to go ahead due to unforeseen circumstances or adverse course conditions which would impact on the safety of competitors, we will post notice of this on the PH Racing Club website the day before and send all entrants a status email. The race will then be rescheduled for early 2020 and all entrants will be automatically assigned a new place.
Registration will be open in the Devonvale Hall, Tillicoultry, FK13 6NS from 8.45am on race day.
Here you can collect your race number and timing chip, use the toilet facilities, get changed, and leave your bag (at your own risk). Registration will close at 10.00am sharp.
The hall has no car park, but you will find ample parking in the surrounding streets so please park courteously.
The start line is on Elistoun Drive immediately adjacent to the hall. This will be clearly marked on race day though. Please be aware for traffic as the road, although a quiet cul-de-sac, is not closed to residents vehicles.
A pre-race briefing will take place at 10.10am to which all competitors must attend.
The race starts at 10.15am.
The course, for the most part, follows the Devon Way from Tillicoultry to Dollar and back, with a 1km loop in Dollar itself.
Apart from a wee section of gravel at the far end, the route is tarred wide pathway, and for all intents and purposes is flat, sheltered and traffic free. In other words it’s PB tastic! We’ve had Scottish Athletics accurately measure out 10km, and your result will therefore be valid toward national ranking statistics.
Don’t let the speed freaks put you off though, the event is open to all, and if pace is not your thing, then you’ve got the lovely Devon River valley to enjoy, as well as views of the Ochil hills.
A drink station will be provided at 4.5km where you begin the loop. You’ll get a second chance to take a swig of Asda’s finest spring water when you pass this station again at 5.5km in the opposite direction.
To ensure the safety of competitors, the route will be marshalled at key points throughout, and we’ll be operating a lead bicycle and a last runner sweeper. Please follow any instructions marshals give.
Please note also that the Devon Way is a popular walking path and we will not have exclusive use of it for the race. Therefore, please be aware of other users, especially those with dogs, and remain courteous as this is a right of way. We will post advance notice of the race for path users to try and lessen any obstruction on race day. As it is an out and back course you must run on the left hand side of the path to avoid other competitors.
The finish line will be on Elistoun Drive, next to where you started. Please ensure you keep the finish line area clear so timing marshals have a clear line of sight to those still sprinting in.
On finishing, all competitors will receive water, bananas, a free bottle of beer courtesy of our generous sponsor Williams Brothers Brewery in Alloa, and a unique medal - yes we've decided to do these! If you've injured yourself in any way, professional first aid will be on hand.
We’ll have hot drinks, pies, soup (from our sponsors Swords Bakery and the Scottish Soup Company) and cakes available for all participants in the hall from about 11.00am, so please do come along even if you don’t think you’re a prize winner. There will also be available post race legs massage provided by Gemma Hertwig from Precious Time Therapies.
All being well, we aim to have prize giving pretty sharpish, certainly by 11.30am, and full results will be posted up in the hall and also on the PH Racing Club website later in the day.
We will have a generous, and extensive prize list for male and female, covering the first three places overall, the first three places in all the other categories, first local places, and a team prize for the first three in a club.
