Helix Novice and Junior Duathlon 2016 Supported by Grangemouth Triathlon Club

Distances

Adult Novice Race - 3.2km run, 12km cycle, 2.5km run (including youths aged 15-16)

Tri Star Starts (8yrs) - 500m run, 1300m bike, 200m run  

Tri Star 1 (9-10yrs) - 1k run, 3k bike, 500m run

Tri Star 2 (11-12yrs) - 1k run, 6k bike, 700m run

Tri Star 3 (13-14yrs) - 1.8k run, 6k bike, 1k run

ALL JUNIOR BIKE AND RUN ROUTES ARE ON HELIX PATH NETWORK.

Car Parking – Falkirk Stadium

Changing Facilities – Falkirk Stadium (please note there are NO changing facilities at the helix park, toilets will be available) changing facilities and showers are available within Falkirk Stadium.

COURSE OVERVIEW

 

This event is sanction controlled with Triathlon Scotland

  
Transition – Large grass area adjacent to lagoon. (Great Lawn)


Bike – Route will be out and back courses around the south side The Helix Park network as well as partial route on A9.


Run – All run routes will be towards the north side of The Helix path network towards the Kelpies.

Finish – Great Lawn, Helix park

( Junior routes are only on public path's)

Adult Novice Race


Race start times are as follows:

·        7.00am, Saturday 24th September 

• A compulsory race briefing will be held for all participants.
• Support will be provided from the organisation during the entirety of the event.
• Road safety traffic regulations must be adhered to at all times by participants.
• Dangerous behaviour or breaches to safety will result in immediate disqualification.
• Littering will not be permitted during the race.  Support stations (gels/bars/water) will be provided by the organisers at transition.
   However, we strongly advise that you carry sufficient sustenance on all sections (i.e. food/water).
• The finish line will be at the great lawn in Helix Park

• Please be courteous to marshals and other volunteers, they have given up time to ensure the event proceeds and their support is invaluable.

 

JUNIOR DUATHLON ( age on 31st of December)

Registration 8:30- 9:00am , bikes must be in place by 9:00am. Pre race briefing 9:05am Prize Giving 10:20am.

For junior entrants only parking is in the helix car park only.

Again there are no shower facilities within helix park.  A changing area will be available at the park and showering facilites are available at Falkirk Stadium.

 3 .Charges

The 2016 entry fees are:Adults/ Youths  £25 affiliated  £27 un affiliated

Juniors ( under 14's) £14 affliated £16 unaffiliated

includes t shirt and medal. Chip timing ( £10 charge for lost chips)

Members MUST bring their race licence on day to registration other wise additional charges will be enforced on the day.

 4. Cancellation rules
 Withdrawal, Cancellations or Alterations

4.1 The Event Organiser reserves the right to alter the start time of the Event.  In the event of a change of start time the Participants will be notified of the revised start time with as much notice as reasonably practicable.  No refund in full or in part shall be made for any change in start time for an Event provided the Event takes place on the specified date of the Event.
4.2 The Event Organiser reserves the right to change the date of the Event. In the event of such change of date of the Event, and the Participant is unable to attend on the revised date, he/she has 14 days to inform the Event Organiser in writing from when the change in date is announced to receive a refund of  their Entry Fee.
4.3The participant shall receive a 50% refund for withdrawal from the event should withdrawal occur more than 8 weeks prior to the event date.
4.4 The participant shall receive a 25% refund for withdrawal from the event should withdrawal occur 4 – 8 weeks prior to the event date.
4.5 The participant shall receive no refund for withdrawal from the event should this occur less than 4 weeks prior to the event date.
4.6 All withdrawal requests must be received in writing to parks@falkirkcommunitytrust.org
to be considered and processed for approval, upon receipt of a written withdrawal request this date will be used to calculate the refund authorised. Payments will be issued within 28 days.
 4.7 The Event Organiser reserves the right to amend the Event format at their sole discretion (such as by way of illustration from a Triathlon to a Dual Discipline Event or other suitable race format) or cancel the Event due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control or for any safety related reason. In the event of the Event being cancelled it shall provide the Participant with a full refund with no further liability whatsoever arising from such cancellation. If the event is changed to a Dual Discipline Event or other format the Participant will not be entitled to any refund and there shall be no further liability whatsoever arising from such change of format.

 
 
5. Course description

 
Run
Heading out of the transition area north towards the Kelpies and back.

 

Bike 
Leaving the transition area heading south towards the Falkirk Stadium joining the A9 towards Beancross farm then onto the Helix path south network returning to the main helix park.

Junior routes are spcific to age category and route maps will be displayed via website and facebook page as well as emailed prior to race day.
 

6. General Rules
All competitors are advised to make themselves familiar with British Triathlon rules and regulations.

Equipment

• Start number must be worn on the back during the entirety of the bike section and in front during the run section.
• Bikes must be checked and of an appropriate standard for racing.
• Helmets are compulsory and must be of an appropriate standard for racing. NO HELMET = NO RACE

 

Medical
Medical crew and marshals appointed by the organisers may withdraw any athlete from the race should they feel that there is a major health or injury risk at any time during the race.
 
Rules on the bike leg
 
The bike course is open to normal traffic. Road safety regulations must be adhered to at all times.

• No obstructions to traffic.
• The use of electrical equipment is prohibited ie no ipods or mp3 players.
• Drafting is prohibited.

The run course is open to normal traffic on road sections. Road safety regulations must be adhered to at all times.


• Ensure you remain on the right side of the road during any road sections.

7. Feed stations on the event

 
Athletes are essentially self‐supported however there will be organiser‐provided aid stations on the bike leg and run section at the furthest point for competitors.
