Elie Triathlon 2023

The Elie Sprint distance Triathlon consists of an (approx) 600m swim, a 30km cycle and a 6km run. The triathlon will start at 1pm until approximately 3pm on July 29th 2023.

ENTRY

Entry will be via the EntryCentral website ONLY and a waiting list will commence once the race is full. Withdrawals will be replaced from those on the waiting list until 7 days before the event, thereafter there will be no movement, as this allows the swim heats to be drawn up. There will be no entry on the day so please do not turn up unless you have a confirmed space.

For safety and insurance reasons we only allow solo participants to be aged 16yrs or older (13/14/15 yr olds can enter as part of a relay team).

ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS: IMPORTANT

In the unlikely event that the Race Committee determine that conditions make it too dangerous to cycle, the race will become an Aquathon (Swim/Run).  Similarly, in the unlikely event that the sea state prevents a safe swim route, the race will become a Duathlon (Cycle/Run).

REGISTRATION

Registration is on Telfer Wynd, Elie KY9 1DN from 11.30am on 29th July. 

BRIEFING

The race briefing at 12.30pm is compulsory for all competitors.

TIMING

We will be using electronic timing and you will be provided with a chip at registration. 

It is your responsibility to wear the chip correctly. Chips must be returned at the end of the race. Competitors not returning their chip will be charged £25.

TRANSITION AREA

Before the event starts your bike must be placed in the transition area. Any clothing you require during the event should be left beside your bike.

PRIZES

Please arrange to stay for the prize giving after the race is complete.

There are prizes in the following categories:- Individual male, Individual female, Mixed/female relay (ie. no all-male relay teams allowed).

There will also be elie tri merchandise for sale (hats etc), cake stalls available and a raffle, all to raise money for the RNLI.

SWIM

The swim comprises a short sea swim from Elie Harbour, around a safety boat to the Elie Tri transition area.

CYCLE

It is compulsory to wear a correctly adjusted cycle helmet.

The route is on public roads. Cyclists should take care at all times and must obey the Highway Code including traffic signs and police directions. Marshals at junctions can give directions only and cannot control / direct traffic. No headphones please - for safety reasons.

No cycling in the transition area – mount after leaving - dismount before re-entering. Your bike must be stored safely in the transition area.

Helmets must be securely fastened and done up at all times before you take your bike from the rack and until you re-rack it. Rules will be enforced and penalties applied. Details of the cycle route are available at: https://www.elietri.com/

RUN

Runners must obey signals from police and marshals. Take care near roads. Be considerate to all other pedestrians.

The run will follow the same route as previous years. It is the usual sprint distance of 5-6km and will follow a route through the countryside. The route is virtually all off road but will be a variety of surfaces - tarmac, grass, track and beach. Road shoes are usually sufficient for the whole run. PARKING

There is limited parking near the Telfer Wynd, and Elie Sports Centre/Golf Club parking is probably the best area.

FACILITIES

The Pavilion cafe serves drinks, food etc at the Sports Club.

Results will be available at https://www.elietri.com/ as soon after the event as possible.

WITHDRAWALS

If you are unable to take part in the triathlon please let us know as soon as possible. Refunds will be provided at the race organisers' discretion up until 14 days before the event.
