Organiser's Description

DATE - Saturday 26th June 2021

**UPDATE: 14/3/21 - the initial places in the event (x250) have now sold out. However, we hope that we can add more slots in the near future, dependant on Scottish Government/Sport Scotland/Triathlon Scotland guidance. If you want to race, please enter (the waiting list) and we hope we can be in touch with good news soon!.

TRIATHLON

For a change, we're staying on-road for a race, though this has become one of the 'classic' Scottish races. It may be a 'Standard' (aka "Olympic") distance, however this is a far from standard 'Standard'!.

The event is set at the spectacular St. Mary's Loch in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Amazing views guaranteed throughout the race.

Swim: 1500m Open Water in the freshwater St. Mary's Loch. Two laps. Wetsuits compulsary.

Bike: 40km Road Bike in the Yarrow and Moffat Water valleys. On leaving the Tibbie Shiels/Sailing Club access road, you'll turn left and head along the A708 towards Moffat for 20km. It's a gradual climb past Loch of the Lowes and up to the watershed pass that seperates the Scottish Borders from Dumfries & Galloway. Then comes a fast swoopy descent past the Grey Mares Tail waterfall. The road undulates along the valley floor all the way to the turn point at 20km, then it's back the way you've come, including the grind back up to the pass!.

Under 18's must have parental consent to cycle on open roads.  Please ensure that consent is gained and the relevant information provided when you enter the race or you may be withdrawn from the race.

Run: 10km along the Southern Upland Way to the eastern end of St. Mary's Loch, and return again. It's a (mostly) good quality track/gravel path with a couple of short sections at the side of a grassy field (can be a little bit muddy in wet years). It's pretty much flat though - some small undulations (no more than a few metres in each case - honest!).

Solo Entry - £48 (Triathlon Scotand/England/Wales Members) / £54 (non-member) + 4% Entry Central Service Charge

Relay Entry - £64 (Triathlon Scotand/England/Wales Members) / £70 (non-member) + 4% Entry Central Service Charge

AQUABIKE

If you don't want to do the run section of the course, this is the perfect low impact alternative.  The Aquabike will follow the same swim course and bike route (see above) as the triathlon and will continue into transition (T2). You will then exit T2 via the run route, where you will be directed a short distance by the marshals to the finish line.

Solo Entry - £38 (Triathlon Scotand/England/Wales Members) / £44 (non-member) + 4% Entry Central Card Processing Fee

Relay Entry - £50 (Triathlon Scotand/England/Wales Members) / £56 (non-member) + 4% Entry Central Card Processing Fee

SUSTAINABILITY (Important Bit!)

We're trying to raise our sustainability game in 2020 and beyond. Yes, it's small stuff, but it's a start, and every bit helps. There are two main changes to the way we're running events we want you to be aware of, and need your collaboration on please;

a) Cups: feed station cups are our biggest source of waste. So we're stopping using them. Completely. Single use cups are entirely avoidable. There will be no cups at feed stations. Instead (for 2020/21 only), and if you need one,  we will supply you with a re-usable foldable 'soft cup' for use as part of your race entry. You will need to carry this with you and use it on the course if you wish to use feed stations.

b) T Shirts: we know many of you love and use them, so we will keep on having them as a race memento. However, we know that some of them get disposed of without ever getting used - that's a waste of resources we can avoid. So, when you enter you will have the option to choose "No T-Shirt". The cost of your entry will remain the same, and we will donate the equivalent of the cost of your T-Shirt to charity (for 2020/21 this is The John Muir Trust.
