Sri Chinmoy Tri Club GO TRI Swim Run @ Filton Pool
30 Apr 17
Sri Chinmoy Tri Club's GO TRI Swim-Run at Filton Pool
Our GO TRI Swim-Run is part of an initiative from Triathlon England to welcome newcomers into the sports of Triathlon, Duathlon (Running+Cycling) and Aquathlon (Swimming+Running). This event is one of 5 multisport and 4 running events which make up the Sri Chinmoy Race Series in the Bristol area for 2017.
Our Swim-Run event will be held at Filton Pool in north Bristol on Sunday 30th April 2017 with a briefing at 8.am and race start at 8.30am. All entries must be made online. This is so you can register for your GO TRI timing band which you will need to wear during the race. Thanks to the support of Filton Pool & Filton Town Council, as well as volunteer marshals from the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team & Triathlon Club, the race will only cost from £6 to enter.
The event is aimed at people training for a triathlon who want multisport practice, or anyone who wants the challenge of combining two sports in a single race. There will be a limit of 50 people taking part to keep the course (and the pool) uncrowded and to stay in line with the aims of the GO TRI initiative which is focussed on small, low-cost races.
FULL RACE INFO:
SWIM - 200m (8 lengths) in a heated, indoor pool. You can swim ANY frontal stroke, but you must be able to complete the distance in under 15 minutes, and keep a straight line in your lane so as not impede other swimmers (so backstroke is not permitted). There will be a maximum of 5 swimmers per lane, with a staggered start to avoid crowding.
TRANSITION - after swimming you will exit the pool from the shallow end (use of the steps is not permitted) and leave via the exit into the car park. In the alley to the car park your running shoes and any extra clothes you need will be waiting for you. So, there won't be time to change out of your swimming kit, but you will be able to pull on shorts and a tee shirt if you want. Those of you with kit suitable for both swimming and running (e.g. a triathlon suit or tight lycra running kit) will just have to put on shoes and head out on the run.
RUN - the run will be 3km which is just under 2 miles. This course is a 1km loop around Elm Park which each competitor will complete 3 times before turning off to the finish line. As the course is mostly on grass, we recommend running shoes with grippy soles (but you can do the race in regular road-running trainers so long as you have tried them out on the grass and are confident you will not slip).
Drinking water will be provided during the run and at the finish. Supporters/spectators are welcome to come and cheer you on during the run, but space is limited in the pool area so we may not be able to admit all spectators to the swim.
