The Dalriada Glenarm Triathlon is back and promises to deliver heaps of fun and great racing. Building on the success of last year that "sprint distance triathlon on a Wednesday evening" everyone was talking about last summer promises to be bigger and better than ever. As part of the Dalriada festival there will plenty happening to entertain friends and family including a duathlon and Scootathlon race for the kids.  The festival runs from 17th to 23rd July and features many sporting events, great music, fine food so there will be plenty of activities for the supporters and families.  This event will run as a mid-week triathlon and takes place on the evening of Wednesday 19th July.

Glenarm Dalriada Sprint Triathlon (Relay Only)

 

The Glenarm Dalriada Sprint Triathlon Relay will take place on Wednesday 19th July 2017.

 

Event History
The Glenarm Dalriada Triathlon was initiated in 2011 and has quickly developed as a highlight of the Glenarm Festival amongst local competitors.  Invictus Triathlon are proud to be hosting the event for the second year and look forward to welcoming athletes, their friends and family to this fun and challenging event.  

 

Glenarm’s topography naturally provides a great location for a triathlon. As well as being a picturesque small village on the North Antrim Coastline it has a sheltered bay for swimming, a circular bike course and a run route encompassing Glenarm Castle. 

 

At the Glenarm Triathlon we also try to attain one goal. To promote a professional race to the highest standards, that inspire athletes of all ages and abilities to get involved in Triathlon and multi sport events.   hospitality and atmosphere. 

 

The race is promoted by the Invictus Triathlon Squad, Glenarm Festival and Larne District Council who put in a real team effort to ensure the race runs smoothly and safely. They combine their experience of triathlon and the immense organisational and administrative skills required to provide a top class event.

 

Event Details
The course itself is ideal for those new to the sport and seasoned campaigners alike. The swim 750 m swim takes place in the sheltered and invigorating waters of the Irish Sea. After a leisurely (or not) transition from the water become one with your bicycle for 20 km, as you bike inland, up and above Glenarm village, gaining spectaular views on the return leg. The 5 km run course is flat and fast, taking in the scenic grounds of Glenarm Castle estate. There is no better way to take in the sights and sounds of picturesque Glenarm! After the race refreshments will be provided and there will be a prizegiving. All race time splits will be recorded by timing chip and published on the Triathlon Ireland website.

 

Prizes: Prize will also be awarded to 1st relay team. 

 

NOTE: If all relay team members are not Full, Student or Junior Triathlon Ireland member, you are required to purchase a one day licence.

 

Relay teams only need to purchase 1 one day licence between the team.

Refunds: Refunds are not available. You can however transfer your entry to someone else as long as the transfer takes place before 17th July 2017. It is up to the competitor taking the race number to obtain ODL if applicable. One day licences cannot be swapped or transferred to other people or races. The Glenarm Junior Duathlon will take place on Wednesday 19th July 2017.

 

The Glenarm Junior Duathlon, promises to provide a fun challenge for children of Primary School age.  This special event is about more than just good fun - It is about children biking and running to help other children working to getting back to doing those activities.  The Junior Duathlon will be run over a variety of distances to accommodate the abilities of under 15's.  This race will take place on private and closed roads within the stunning grounds of Glenarm Estate.

 

Event Details:

The event will consist of a short run through the grounds of Glenarm Estate, a bike on closed roads and a final short run through the grounds.  Competitors are also invited to complete the challenge on Scooter, as an alternative to the cycle.  Race distances will be dependant on the age of your child on the 20.07.17.  All entrants will receive a Goodie bag and finishers medal. 

 

Categories:

- 8 and Under (minimum age of 6) - 250 m run, 1.5 km cycle (tarmac), 250 m run

- 10 and under - 250 m run, 1.5 km cycle (tarmac), 250 m run

- 12 and under - 400 m run, 2.5 km cycle (tarmac), 400 m run

- 15 and under - 800 m run, 2.5 km cycle (tarmac), 800 m run

 

Schools Offer:

Any School with more than ten children competing in any combination of the above categories will receive a complementary £50 book token. Please provide School details during registration.  

 

NOTE: 

For safety reasons all children must be able to ride a bike.

For insurance reasons, Triathon Ireland require all Juniors to hold a valid Race Membership.  Payment for this has been included with your on line entry and you will be required to complete a short administration form on the 19.07.17 which will be forwarded to Triathlon Ireland.  This will also enable your child to patricipate at other Triathlon Ireland Sanctioned events in 2017.
