Friston Forest charity trail runs
12 Aug 2018
The Friston Forest charity trail runs. Sunday 12th August 2018.
TRA permit number: TBC
We have ditched the metric and gone imperial, so remember the distance is in miles!
100% off road. The usual lung busting, heart rate rising climbs at the start, with a few more thrown in later for good measure!
The Adder = 2 laps = 10 miles.
The Friston Five = 1 lap = 5 miles.
New for 2018 is the Kids fun run. 09.15 mass start. If you can, please help us marshal this short race before the main event. (This is measured in KM unlike the adult races.)
6-10yrs = 1 lap (1km)
10-14 = 2 laps (2km)
Race price varies, the earlier you enter, the cheaper it is!
The Adder 10 miler is a mass start at 09:45 hours. https://32gi.co.uk/ will help keep you going over the two laps.
The Friston Five miler is more relaxed and you can start at anytime from you like from 09:50 to 10:00 (On the morning we will do a mass start at 0950, but if you don't want to run with the pack, just let us know when you want to set off so that we start timing you. As importantly, please let us know when you are back!)
Cut off time is 12.30 noon (i.e. pub opening time!)
Both Walkers and Dog-Runners are welcome to join in the 5 mile event.
Please pick up your race number from registration on the morning. We will be over by the BBQ area from 8(ish) with registration opening from 08.30 to 09.20. Providing we don't sell out in advance like in 2016, there will be half a dozen on the day entries available for either distance on a 1st come, 1st served basis.
We advise you to download the mapmyrun.com app and have a nice stroll around in the weeks before the event. The route is on this app and is available to download.
A route map and narrative will be on our Facebook & website pages and a few paper copies will be available on race morning. All routes are on a clockwise loop.
Important note: Due to no vehicular access, there is no water station on the course. You will be provided with a water bottle at registration, please take it with you and do not discard the bottle or any gel wrappers etc in the forest or you’ll be DQd! There are replacement botttles for the 10 mile turn-around point at the end of lap 1. And of course there is more water available at the finish line.
The run starts and finishes on grass, which maybe slippery so take care. Plus your running in woodlands, so expect tree routes, dogs, horses, mountainbikes and if your lucky you may spot an Adder warming up in the sunshine..
Finish: Congratulations, you made it! Stretch, cool down and relax.
Results and Prizes: 1st, 2nd, 3rd for fastest open class males and females over Adder distance. 1st Male & Female for the 5.
Every finisher gets a medal.
(If you find the going too hard in the Adder, you can drop down to the 5 after lap one and still get a time and a medal, but you will not be eligible for a trophy.)
Unfortunately we are unable to accept wheelchair entries due to some of the off-road terrain being very narrow.
Toilets block next to start/finish area.
Professional First Aid providers in attendance.
£1 per entry will be donated to http://www.alzheimersresearchuk.org/donate-to-us.aspx The rest goes to cover our costs, insurance etc and the pub bar-tab bill for the marshals.
Any last minute updates will be posted to our Facebook page.
