K24 Ultra Marathon

K24 Ultra Marathon, Dean Castle Country Park, Kilmarnock

The K24 Trail Race is Scotland’s newest 24 hour ultra marathon. Runners have 24 hours to see how many loops of the 4km route around Dean Castle Country Park they can complete. We also offer a 12 hour race which can serve as a nice introduction to ultra running and also the 24 hour format. we are also including a team event for up to 10 runners.

There’s a base camp at the start/finish area for you and your support crew.

K24 Teams

Teams of up to 10 competitors

The race loop is 4km loop. The majority of it is run on forest trails and estate roads. The course will be fully marked and so by the time darkness falls you’ll have no concerns about getting lost! You can of course visit Dean Castle Country Park anytime to familiarise yourself with it in advance.

Cold & hot water will be supplied for runners to use. Cold water will be available at the start/finish and also at the 2km checkpoint. Hot water will be available at the start/finish.

There is ample parking at the start/finish area. There will be limited space for those of you who wish to use camper vans etc, so if you intend to do this, please let us know ASAP. We also have onsite accommodation which can be booked in advance There will also be space on the start/finish straight for runners who wish to setup a small table to put food/drink on.

There will be toilets, showers and changing facilities available for the duration of the event.

Safety Info
Please come well prepared for this event as you would for any other endurance race.Please remember to dress for the expected weather.

We will have a number of first aiders onsite for the duration of the race, but please don’t underestimate the importance of a support crew no matter how experienced you are in running ultra races.

The race team will also be patrolling the course regularly on foot and bike, so don’t be afraid to ask for some company for a lap or two if you feel you need it.

Above all else, please keep an eye out for each other when on the course and let us know if you think someone is struggling or needs assistance.

Suggested Kit List

  • Head torch w/spare batteries. ** MANDATORY ITEM **
  • Full body waterproof clothing.
  • Hats, gloves,
  • Midge net and repellant (deet-based or Avon “Skin so Soft”) – more important for support crew than runners!
  • Tent with sleeping bag, mat etc.
  • Some warm layers, spare layers etc.
  • Basic first aid kit.
  • Enough food to last the duration.
  • Sunglasses & sun-block.
  • Any current medication you may be taking.
  • Enough supplements, sports drinks, electrolytes etc to last the duration. Drinking water will be provided.
  • Mobile phone.
  • Anything else that will make your race more enjoyable….. within reason!!!!

The above kit is the bare minimum you are expected to have on the day and some of it is just our own recommendations from experience at ultra races. Equipment and food/drink requirements are a very individual thing for each athlete, so please be sure to test things out in training as its the only way to know what will work for you.
