ESC Brecon Beacons Weekend 2022

09 Sep 2022 - 11 Sep 2022

Organiser's Description

Welcome to the payment page for our Brecon Beacons club trip!

We have booked the Brecon Bunkhouse in Pengenfford, it has space for 28 people. Check out the map for the exact location.

*Taken from website*

Brecon Bunkhouse is in the heart of the Black Mountains area of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, famous for its wild mountains and rugged terrain. There is fantastic hiking, mountain-biking and horse-riding right from the front door, and canoeing, climbing, gorge-walking and high rope activities are nearby. To top it off, there's a great pub a short walk from the bunkhouse (bring a torch!)

We're 25 minutes drive from Abergavenny, Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, making us an ideal base from which to explore the Brecon Beacons and South Wales, and near Talgarth, which has just been made a 'Walkers Are Welcome' town in recognition of the fabulous hiking around the local area.

Costs

For insurance reasons these trips are aimed at ESC members and for that reason they will have been emailed a discount code. If you are not a member and try to use the code your ticket will be invalidated by us and give me a headache so please don't! The discount code only works for one person at a time so if you want to pay for multiple people with a code just buy one ticket at a time. If you joined after that email went round please message a committee member for the code.

If you're not a member of the club you count as a prospective member for insurance reasons (ie are covered) for the first three months since you first did a club activity. If you've been coming on club trips for longer than that you'll need to join up to come. The link for that is here: Entrycentral.com/esc

The breakdown of the costs is as follows:

2 nights ESC member - £30 (usual discount code)

2 nights NON member - £40

Transport

Make sure you add yourself to the Facebook event page to arrange car sharing. If you're not on facebook get in touch and I'll help sort you a lift. The process for car sharing is as follows; if you can offer a lift then post on the facebook event where you live and how many spaces you have, if you want a lift comment underneath that persons post untill the car is full. Costs are set by the driver and split between everyone in the car.

Activies for the weekend

Friday - Earliest arrival 15:00 there is a pub in walking distance for those early.

Saturday - Mixed activities to discuss closer to the time!

Saturday Night - Socialise and refuel at the accomodation or a meal at the local Nepalese restuarant.

Sunday - Self Choice.

Anyone that comes along can can do what ever they want, if you want to do something specific share it on the Facebook event page. Some of us will be using one of the days on this trip to practice for the new members one in August - So we have space to teach some novices that can't make the August trip. The rest of the trip is self sufficient so its worth agreeing ahead of time if someone is looking after you. There are normally some people willing :)

What you need to bring

Food and alcohol for the weekend, although you can top up easily enough if needed. The communal meal is undecided right now so will be discussed in the event Whatsapp group, or we can make plans for eating at the pub.

Pillow, Sleeping bag or Duvet for the bunkbeds , plus a towel and some sort of sheet for lying on if you prefer.

Appropriate kit for hiking or walking to crags in Southern Welsh hills (If you're not 100% confident please reach out) Including appropriate footwear, that you've broken in, decent waterproofs and warm layers.

Any other gear you have that you need for the activities including a bike if your going biking (or find somewhere nearby to hire one).

Other things of note:

You will need to give the accomodation a light cleaning Sunday morning before leaving the bunkhouse. Exit bedrooms by 12.00 and accom by 13.00. Work together with everyone to do this, if you don't know what needs doing speak to the trip leader.

There are not any qualified mountain leaders on this trip, you are choosing to come of your own volition to be around your peers.

Any questions please let us know! :)
